Firefighters to distribute free smoke detectors at King Day celebration

The Kansas City, Kan., Fire Department, in partnership with the local chapter of the International Association of Black Professional Firefighters, will participate in the Martin Luther King Jr. Day Celebration to be held at 11 a.m. Monday, Jan. 19, at the Reardon Civic Center, 500 Minnesota Ave.

Members of the Black Professional Firefighters will provide smoke detectors to Kansas City, Kan., residents and also will conduct hands-only CPR training, part of the Fire Department’s nationally recognized Heart Safe program, according to a Fire Department spokesman.

Firefighters will also distribute information concerning careers with the Kansas City, Kan., Fire Department and their upcoming recruitment efforts, the spokesman said.
