Sumner Academy fell to Wyandotte last night, 82-67, despite Jalen Taylor putting 16 points on the scoreboard.
Even though the Sabres added 34 points in the final quarter behind the energy and solid play of freshmen DiCarlo Jackson Jr. and DeAuan McClaine, it wasn’t enough to overcome the Bulldogs. Both Sumner Academy and Wyandotte played hard, with 63 combined free throws attempted.
Wyandotte senior, Theo Bass, was the games high scorer with 19 points shooting 4-for-8 from the field and a perfect 8-for-8 from the charity stripe. Teammate Todd Kennedy’s added 17 points off the bench for the Bulldogs.
Taylor found success all over the court for Sumner Academy, making 44 percent (4-for-9) of shots attempted while also sinking 89 percent (8-for-9) of free throws attempted.
Two other players also scored in the double digits for Sumner Academy. Theron Sanders added 12 points and Saadique Perkins had 10 points.
Also chipping in for Sumner Academy were Shaun Rainey (8 points, 4 rebounds), Vance Jackson (7 points), De’Auan McClaine (6 points, 2 rebounds), DiCarlo Jackson (4 points), Virdal Nash (2 points, 5 rebounds, 2 blocks) and Marvin Ellis (2 points, 1 steal). Both teams finished the game with 34 rebounds apiece (Sumner-14 offensive/20 defensive) (Wyandotte-9 offensive/25 defensive). Sabres travel to Harmon this Friday to take on the Hawks.
