Walk-away inmate back in custody after turning himself in

Minimum-custody resident Zachary H. Leis has been apprehended and is back in custody at the Wichita Work Release Facility, according to a spokesman for the Kansas Department of Corrections.

Leis, a 28-year-old male, turned himself in just before the noon hour Tuesday, Dec. 27.

Leis was reported missing when he did not return to the facility after work Monday, according to a spokesman. Officials from the Kansas Department of Corrections, Enforcement, Apprehensions and Investigations (EAI), and the Kansas Highway Patrol had been searching throughout the night and this morning.

Leis is serving a sentence for convictions of aggravated assault, aggravated battery, criminal damage to property and two counts of domestic battery out of Sedgwick County.
