Pedestrian dies in accident on I-70

A pedestrian died Sunday in an accident on eastbound I-70 near the I-635 exit, according to a Kansas Highway Patrol trooper’s report.

Chris Mcclellan, 42, of Columbus, North Carolina, died in the accident, according to the trooper’s report. Mcclellan was listed as a pedestrian.

The trooper’s crash log stated a Honda Civic was eastbound in the left lane on I-70 around 6:28 p.m. Sunday, and a Ford transit van was stopped on the left shoulder. A BMW was eastbound in the left lane.

The Honda struck the right rear quarter panel and sliding door on the Ford transit van, and the sliding door struck the pedestrian, the trooper’s report stated.

A 2020 BMW then struck the door from the transit van in the left lane, according to the trooper’s report.

The trooper’s report stated the driver of the Honda, a 20-year-old woman from Topeka, had a possible injury and was taken to a hospital.

The driver of the BMW, a 67-year-old man from St. Louis, Missouri, had no apparent injury, the report stated. A passenger in the BMW, a 63-year-old woman from St. Louis, Missouri, also had no apparent injury, according to the report.
