Nine straight wins. That’s how many consecutive victories the No. 17 KCKCC baseball team has rattled off since April 7 after it took all four games this past week against KJCCC foe Fort Scott Community College.
The Blue Devils took the first two games at home on Thursday by scores of 11-8 and 18-12, before going on the road to defeat the Greyhounds 15-12 and 14-5. This is the team’s second longest winning streak of the season after pulling off 14 straight wins back in late March.
The Blue Devils sit atop the East Division KJCCC standings in first place with a 34-5 overall and 18-2 conference record.
KCKCC had a tough battle early in the series holding onto a 7-4 lead after three innings in game one.
When it came to the fifth inning, the Blue Devils created some breathing room to score four runs in the frame and led 11-7 over the Greyhounds. Fort Scott tacked on one more run, but the Blue Devils survived in the end.
Pablo Sanchez led the team with three hits and six RBI in the contest.
In game two, the Blue Devils took an 8-5 lead after four innings, but the Greyhounds came back and added five runs in the sixth. The Blue Devils offense did not back down, however, as it scored 10 runs over the next three innings to win the game.
Caleb Adams hit two home runs in the game and Parker Bosserman added a team-high four RBI.
Late game heroics were also the story of the final two games of the series on Saturday. KCKCC scored 11 runs in the final two innings of game three, and nine runs in the last two innings of the series finale. The nine runs in the final game were icing on the cake as the Blue Devils held the Greyhounds to just five runs.
Darius Freeman and Brayden Vawter each hit home runs in game three, while Sanchez added another two bombs in the final contest.
KCKCC will look to continue its hot streak on Tuesday when it plays host to Hesston College for a doubleheader beginning at 1 p.m.
