Another big match for the Kansas City Kansas Community College men’s basketball team pitted them against No. 2 and undefeated Johnson County Community College Saturday afternoon inside the KCKCC Fieldhouse.
The game was tight from the beginning, but the Blue Devils held a comfortable lead down the stretch to upset the Cavaliers, 77-65.
The Blue Devils improve to 15-7 overall and 6-1 in the KJCCC.
KCKCC broke out on a 10-0 run to start the game, thanks to six points from Bradley Lightbourne.
The Blue Devils maintained the lead until the 8:48 mark of the first half as JCCC tied the score at 16-16. KCKCC held the lead late, though, and went up by two points at 34-32 at halftime.
The Blue Devils came out strong in the second half and found themselves up 47-36 after Caleb Jones drove the lane for a dunk. As it looked like the Cavaliers would make a comeback, the Blue Devils held their ground when Cortez Howlett and Shayon Janloo scored five points to give the team a 10-point lead. KCKCC never let its guard down late in the game and was able to come out with the 12-point win.
Lightbourne and Howlett each had 16 points to lead the team. Janloo scored 11 points and Jones added 10.
KCKCC returns to the court on Monday for a road game at Labette Community College at 7:30 p.m.
