Highland, Kansas – The Kansas City Kansas Community College women’s basketball team had a strong start against Highland Community College Saturday, but the Blue Devils were unable to hold onto the lead as the Scotties came out with a 54-47 win.
KCKCC is 9-7 overall and 1-2 in the Kansas Jayhawk Community College Conference.
The Blue Devils outscored the Scotties 17-6 in the first quarter as Faith Putz connected on three straight baskets, including two three-pointers during the run.
Highland however quickly whittled down the lead and would take a lead of their own at 24-19 at halftime.
KCKCC managed to slowly inch closer to the deficit as Jennifer Guilbeaux and De’Jaria Guillroy made four straight free throws.
Highland led 32-28 going into the fourth quarter. The Blue Devils made several attempts to regain the lead that they had in the first quarter, but the Scotties held on for the duration of the final period to win the game.
Putz led the team with 11 points, while Guilbeaux had nine points and 11 rebounds.
The Lady Blue Devils are back in action Wednesday when they play host to Neosho County Community College at 5:30 p.m.
