‘Wyandotte Winter Warm-up’ drive to help area residents

As temperatures drop across Kansas City, many men, women and children experiencing homelessness or financial challenges don’t have a warm winter coat, gloves or hat.

Wyandot Behavioral Health Network will hold its first “Wyandotte Winter Warm-Up” on Saturday, Nov. 13.

Community members are invited to drop off donations of new or gently used men’s, women’s and children’s winter coats, scarves, hats, gloves and new socks. Then stick around and warm up with a cup of hot cocoa or coffee.

The event will be held from 9 a.m. to noon Saturday, Nov. 13, at the PACES facility, 7840 Washington Ave., Kansas City, Kansas.

Winter coats and accessories will be provided to individuals served by Wyandot Center, Frank Williams Outreach Center, RSI, Kim Wilson Housing and PACES.

Donation drop-off boxes also are set up at three locations across Kansas City, Kansas. Donations are being accepted weekdays from 9 a.m. to 3 p.m. through Friday, Dec. 17, at these locations:

• PACES – 7840 Washington Ave., Kansas City, Kansas
• Wyandot Center – 1301 N. 47th St., Kansas City, Kansas
• Wyandot BHN – 757 Armstrong Ave., Kansas City, Kansas

“As the winter months approach, we begin to worry about our houseless clients who have to weather the storm without proper winter gear to protect them from the harsh conditions,” said Cierra Nixon, Frank Williams Outreach Center supervisor. “Coats, hats, and gloves are necessities that are difficult to obtain in the numbers that we need to help everyone we serve.”
