9-year-old KCK girl dies in rollover traffic accident in Missouri

A 9-year-old Kansas City, Kan., girl was killed in a traffic accident at 6:25 p.m. Sunday on westbound I-70 in Lafayette County, Mo.

Melanie Ayerim-Macias, 9, was a passenger in a Nissan Maxima, according to a Missouri Highway Patrol report.

According to the highway patrol report, the vehicle was traveling in the left lane and traveled off the right side of the road, then returned to the right shoulder, where it began to skid and overturned multiple times, ejecting two persons, including Melanie and a 6-year-old girl.

The vehicle then again traveled off the right side of the road, coming to rest on its wheels in a ditch, the report stated.

The report stated that four other people in the vehicle had moderate injuries.

They include a 36-year-old Kansas City, Kan., woman; a 33-year-old Kansas City, Kan., woman; a 3-year-old Kansas City, Kan., girl; and a 6-year-old Kansas City, Kan., girl, according to the report. The 33-year-old woman was the driver.

The other occupants of the vehicle were taken to hospitals.
