BPU to meet today

The Kansas City, Kansas, Board of Public Utilities will meet at 5 p.m. and 6 p.m. Wednesday, Dec. 7.

On the agenda for the regular meeting at 6 p.m. are a public comment time; general manager and staff reports, October financial report; self-recognition policy resolution; Wyandotte County redistricting resolution; miscellaneous comments; board comments; and an executive session.

On the agenda for the 5 p.m. work session are a board update, general manager update; self-recognition policy; and executive dashboards.

Today’s cloudy skies will give way to rain after midnight, according to the National Weather Service forecast.

Rain, not snow or sleet, is in the Wyandotte County forecast for tonight and Thursday, the weather service said. Temperatures remain in the 40s tonight, then may drop to about 35 on Thursday night.

Friday night may see some light precipitation south of I-70, according to the weather service. More rain is possible Monday and Tuesday.

Today will be mostly cloudy with a high near 49 and a calm wind becoming east northeast around 5 mph, the weather service said.

Tonight, there is a 70 percent chance of rain, mainly after midnight, with a low of 40, according to the weather service. A calm wind will become east 5 to 7 mph in the evening. Less than a tenth of an inch of rain is expected.

Thursday, there is a 90 percent chance of rain, with a high near 50 and an east wind of 5 to 8 mph, gusting as high as 18 mph, the weather service said. Between a quarter and half-inch of rain is possible.

Thursday night, it will be cloudy with a low of 35 and a calm wind becoming west 5 to 9 mph in the evening. Winds may gust up to 20 mph.

Friday, it will be partly sunny with a high near 44 and a west northwest wind of 5 to 8 mph becoming calm in the afternoon, the weather service said.

Edwardsville plans Mayor’s Tree Lighting Ceremony tonight

Edwardsville is planning the annual Mayor’s Tree Lighting Ceremony at 6 p.m. Tuesday, Dec. 6, at Edwardsville City Hall, 690 S. 4th, Edwardsville.

The event will feature a performance of the Edwardsville Elementary School Choir.

Preceding the tree lighting will be the Ho Ho Express neighborhood parade.

After the tree lighting will be a visit from Santa Claus with cocoa, crafts and special gifts at the Edwardsville Community Center, 696 S. 3rd, Edwardsville.
