Legends to hold Halloween on the Lawn tonight

The Legends Outlets Shopping Center will hold Halloween on the Lawn from 6 p.m. to 8 p.m. Saturday, Oct. 22.

Costumes may be worn to the free, family-friendly event.

The event includes a movie screening of “The Nightmare Before Christmas” on the outdoor movie screen around 6:20 p.m.

There also will be face painting, fortune telling, a Halloween photo opportunity, candy while supplies last and offers from participating stores.

Those who are 12 and older should not wear masks that fully cover the face. Weapons of any kind are not allowed. Seating is limited, and participants may bring a lawn chair or blanket.

The Legends Outlets is located at I-70 and I-435 in Kansas City, Kansas. The Lawn is on the west side of the shopping center.

Dumpster Days continues Saturday


Dumpster Days, an opportunity for Wyandotte County residents to recycle electronics waste for a small fee and dispose of unwanted bulky items for free, will continue Saturday morning. The event will be from 8 a.m. to noon Oct. 22 at Wyandotte County Park, 126th and State Avenue, Bonner Springs. Those participating in the event will need to show proof of Wyandotte County residence with a driver’s license, utility bill or other document displaying their name and address. Residents may bring items including electronics recycling, mattresses, furniture, appliances, fixtures, refrigerators, televisions and cathode ray tube televisions and monitors. There will be a $40 charge for CRT computer screens, $20 for LCD-flat screen TVs, and $40 for CRT TVs. Cash only, exact change, will be accepted. Items that will not be accepted include household hazardous waste, yard waste, batteries, storm debris, food waste, glass, plastics and other recycling, tires and demolition material. Household hazardous waste may be taken to the HHW Center at 2443 S. 88th St., Kansas City, Kansas, for free. HHW dates for this year have passed, and residents may view dates in 2023 at wycokck.org/waste. Recycling or yard waste may be taken to the Recycling and Yard Waste Center at 3241 Park Drive, Kansas City, Kansas, for free. United Way plans ‘United By You’ Day on Saturday

The United Way of Greater Kansas City will join with local businesses and influencers to launch the “United By You” Day on Saturday, Oct. 22. This one-day, citywide event will activate several businesses in all six metro counties that United Way supports in a shared giveback opportunity throughout the city. The purpose of “United By You” Day is to raise awareness and inspire community action for residents to become change-makers — or, as United Way calls them, Waymakers — and drive community betterment for Kansas City, together, a spokesman stated. Participating Kansas City businesses are donating 20% of their profits during a selected time period, which will benefit the six main community issues UWGKC works to improve: health, financial stability and education. The organization has also aligned with local Kansas City influencers, Molly Buchanan (@CrowningGloryBlog) and Ritz Dasgupta (@ritz_journospeak), who are supporters of the organization and plan to preview the day of giving with their audiences on Instagram. Grinter Place Friends plan Halloween event Saturday

The Grinter Place Friends and Grinter neighborhood group are planning a Halloween activity from 1 to 4 p.m. Saturday, Oct. 22, at the visitors’ center, 1400 S. 78th St., Kansas City, Kansas. Kansas City Kansas Community College is holding a Kids Halloween Trunk-or-Treat Party. The event is from 5:30 to 7:30 p.m. Saturday, Oct. 22, in the parking lot of the Dr. Thomas R. Burke Technical Education Center, 6565 State Ave. in Kansas City, Kansas. Activities include carnival rides, inflatables, bounce houses, food trucks and more. It is free and open to the public.
