Hot and humid weather in forecast

Hot and humid weather remains in today’s forecast, with a high near 92 and a heat index as high as 100, according to the National Weather Service.

The temperature was 79 degrees at 9 a.m. Thursday.

Afternoon temperatures will make a quick return into the 90s area-wide by Friday, the weather service said.


The heat index will be in a range of 100 to 105 for the weekend, according to the weather service.

A chance for thunderstorms returns Sunday into Monday, and severe weather is not expected at this time, the weather service said.

Today, it will be sunny, with a high near 92 and a heat index as high as 100, the weather service said. A northeast wind will be around 6 mph.

Tonight, it will be mostly clear, with a low of 70 and an east wind of 3 to 6 mph, according to the weather service.

Friday, it will be sunny, with a high near 94 and a heat index as high as 101, the weather service said. A calm wind will become southeast 5 to 7 mph in the morning.

Friday night, it will be mostly clear, with a low of 76 and a southeast wind around 7 mph, according to the weather service.

Saturday, it will be sunny, with a high near 96 and a south wind of 6 to 10 mph, gusting as high as 21 mph, the weather service said.

UG budget presentation to be Thursday

The 2023 Unified Government proposed budget will be presented at 4:30 p.m. Thursday, Aug. 4, at the Commission Chambers, lobby level, City Hall, 701 N. 7th St., Kansas City, Kansas.

Injury-accident reported on I-35

An injury-accident was reported at 8:42 a.m. Wednesday, Aug. 3, on the northbound I-35 exit ramp to 7th Street, according to the Kansas Highway Patrol.

A Volkswagen Beetle and an Audi S3 were northbound on I-35 exiting at 7th Street, when the Audi slowed for traffic ahead and the Beetle was unable to slow, striking the rear of the Audi, according to the trooper’s report.

A 43-year-old woman from Edmond, Oklahoma, driving the Audi was taken to the hospital with a possible minor injury, the trooper’s report stated.

A 20-year-old woman from Spring Hill, Kansas, driving the Beetle had no apparent injury, according to the trooper’s report.
