High near 82 today

Showers and thunderstorms are in the forecast for Friday and Friday night, according to the weather service. A few storms could be strong, but most are not expected to be severe.

Today, it will be mostly sunny, with a high near 82 and an east northeast wind of 6 to 8 mph, the weather service said.

Tonight, it will be mostly clear, with a low around 63 and an east northeast wind of 6 mph becoming calm in the evening, according to the weather service.

Thursday, it will be mostly sunny, with a high near 85 and a light and variable wind, the weather service said.

Thursday night, there is a 20 percent chance of showers and thunderstorms after 1 a.m., according to the weather service. The low will be around 64 with a south wind of 3 to 5 mph.

Friday, there is a 30 percent chance of showers and thunderstorms after 1 p.m., with a high near 85 and a south wind of 5 to 8 mph, the weather service said. Less than a tenth of an inch of rain is expected.

Friday night, there is a 30 percent chance of showers and thunderstorms, with a low of 64, according to the weather service. Between a tenth and quarter-inch of rain is possible.

Saturday, it will be mostly sunny, with a high near 84, the weather service said.

Homicide victim on Ray Avenue identified

The victim of a homicide about 10 p.m. Sunday, Aug. 14, in the 1300 block of Ray Avenue has been identified, according to police.

The victim was Bruce Nelson, 25, a police spokesman stated.

Nelson was taken to a hospital and died a few hours later from his injuries. He was a resident of Kansas City, Kansas, the spokesman stated.

The incident is under investigation by the Kansas City, Kansas, Police Department’s Major Case Unit.

Injury-accident reported on I-635

An injury-accident was reported on southbound I-635 near Shawnee Drive about 7:50 a.m. Monday, Aug. 15, according to a Kansas Highway Patrol trooper’s crash log.

According to the trooper’s report, a GMC Acadia was southbound on I-635 when a vehicle swerved into its lane. The driver of the Acadia swerved to avoid contact, crossed the left lane and struck the barrier wall, the trooper’s report stated.

The driver of the Acadia, a 20-year-old woman from Gladstone, Missouri, had a possible minor injury and was taken to a hospital, the report stated.
