Kansas Avenue Bridge shuts down today

The Kansas Avenue Bridge is closing from River Park Drive on the Kansas City, Kansas, side to the American Royal Drive on the Kansas City, Missouri, side, according to an announcement today.

The Unified Government and Kansas City, Kansas, Public Works Department have announced the immediate closure of the Kansas Avenue Bridge at 3 p.m. Friday, July 15, a UG spokesman stated.

Through a week-long inspection with HNTB inspectors, the recommendations are to close the bridge immediately until further notice, according to the spokesman.

The HNTB inspection report will be completed and verified within the next few weeks, the spokesman stated.

The UG spokesman stated that the UG Public Works Department is working diligently to ensure complete detour routes are available and are fully labeled because of this closure.

Police identify homicide victim on Stewart Avenue

A homicide victim in the 1700 block of Stewart Avenue early Wednesday morning has been identified, according to a spokesman for the Kansas City, Kansas, Police Department.

The victim was Jourdyn Everette, 28, the spokesman stated.

Officers responded to a dispatched call about 2:41 a.m. Wednesday on Stewart. Officers discovered an adult male with a gunshot wound inside the residence, according to the spokesman.

The victim was taken to a hospital where he died from his injuries, the spokesman stated.

The incident is under investigation by the Kansas City, Kansas, Police Department’s Major Case Unit.

Anyone with information on this case is urged to call the Crime Stoppers TIPS hotline at 816-474-TIPS, according to the spokesman. All tips will remain anonymous and may qualify for a cash reward, the spokesman stated.
