Pleasant weather ahead today

Temperatures will reach a high near 80 today, with sunny skies, according to the National Weather Service.

Scattered showers and storms are possible for Saturday, with wind gusts up to 30 mph, the weather service said.

The Saturday night through Tuesday night forecasts also contain chances of rain and storms, according to the weather service.

There is a marginal risk for severe weather on Sunday, the weather service said. The severe weather risk Monday through Thursday is low, but it cannot be ruled out at this time, according to the weather service.

The amount of rainfall is expected to be light to moderate, the weather service said.

Today, it will be sunny, with a high near 80 and a west wind of 3 to 6 mph, the weather service said.

Tonight, it will be mostly clear, with a low of 58, according to the weather service. A southwest wind of 5 mph will become calm in the evening.

Saturday, there is a 30 percent chance of showers and thunderstorms, mainly after 1 p.m., the weather service said. The high will be near 78 with a light south wind increasing to 8 to 13 mph in the morning, and gusting up to 22 mph. Less than a tenth of an inch of rain is possible.

Saturday night, there is a 50 percent chance of showers and thunderstorms, with a low of 63, according to the weather service. A south wind of 3 to 8 mph could gust as high as 18 mph. Between a tenth and quarter-inch of rain is possible.

Sunday, there will be a 50 percent chance of showers and thunderstorms, with a high near 83, the weather service said. A calm wind will become south around 6 mph in the morning. Less than a tenth of an inch of rain is possible.

Sunday night, there is a 50 percent chance of showers and thunderstorms, with a low of 64, according to the weather service. Between a quarter and half-inch of rain is possible.

Monday, there is a 50 percent chance of showers, with a high near 79, the weather service said.

Monday night, there is a 40 percent chance of showers after 1 a.m., with a low of 62, according to the weather service.

Tuesday, there is a 50 percent chance of showers, with a high near 77, the weather service said.

Tuesday night, there is a 60 percent chance of showers, mainly after 1 a.m., with a low of 62, according to the weather service.

Wednesday, it will be partly sunny, with a high near 79, the weather service said.

Wednesday night, it will be partly cloudy, with a low near 60, according to the weather service.

Thursday, there is a 30 percent chance of showers, with a high near 77, the weather service said.

I-70 and I-635 interchange closures start tonight for bridge deck demolition

Eastbound and westbound I-70 will be closed at I-635 and traffic will be detoured starting at 7 p.m. today, June 3, to 5 a.m. Monday, June 6.

The detours are required for a Kansas Department of Transportation (KDOT) westbound I-70 to southbound I-635 ramp bridge deck replacement project that is expected to be completed in December.

Roadways that will be reduced to a single lane of traffic at 7 p.m. June 3 to 5 a.m. June 7 include:


• Westbound I-70, from U.S. 169 (7th Street) to I-635
• Eastbound I-70, from Turner Diagonal Freeway to I-635
• Northbound I-635, from K-32 (Kansas Avenue) to I-70
• Southbound I-635, from Orville Avenue to I-70

Injury-accident reported on I-435

An injury-accident was reported at 2:37 a.m. Thursday, June 2, on southbound I-435 just south of I-70, according to a Kansas Highway Patrol trooper’s report.

A Lexus was southbound on I-435 when the driver was unable to avoid a crashed semi in the roadway, according to the trooper’s report. The Lexus struck the semi’s trailer, the report stated.

The driver of the Lexus, a 22-year-old man from Wichita, Kansas, was taken to the hospital with a possible serious injury, according to the report.

A 55-year-old Kansas City, Kansas man who was a passenger in the Lexus had a possible serious injury and was taken to the hospital, the report stated.

The driver of the Kenworth semi tractor-trailer, a 60-year-old man from Independence, Missouri, had no apparent injury, according to the report.
