I-635 closed down Monday night after incident

A caller reported at 9:03 p.m. Monday, May 16, that his vehicle was struck by gunfire from a passing vehicle as he was driving northbound on I-635 near Shawnee Drive.

At the time, the caller reported to the dispatcher that he had been shot, according to a spokesman for the Kansas City, Kansas, Police Department.

Officers then responded and the highway was shut down to gather evidence, the police spokesman stated.

The victim, an adult male, was taken to a hospital where it was determined he had not been struck by a bullet, but he had been struck by broken glass, according to the police spokesman. No suspect information is available, the spokesman stated.

Injury-accident reported on I-70

An injury-accident was reported at 4:34 p.m. Monday on westbound I-70 near the Park Drive exit.

According to the Kansas Highway Patrol trooper’s report, a Chevrolet Suburban 1500 was eastbound in the left lane with a Nissan Sentra eastbound in the middle lane and a Dodge Grand Caravan eastbound in the right lane.

The Suburban changed lanes from the left lane to the middle lane, then the Sentra spu out and struck the side of the Grand Caravan, the trooper’s report stated. The Suburban ran off the road to the left and struck the barrier wall, according to the trooper’s report.

The driver of the Suburban, a 29-year-old Kansas City, Kansas, man, had a possible minor injury and was taken to a hospital, the trooper’s report stated.

The driver of the Sentra, a 55-year-old Kansas City, Missouri, woman, had a possible minor injury and was taken to a hospital, according to the trooper’s report.

The driver of the Dodge Caravan, a 17-year-old Kansas City, Kansas, man, had a possible minor injury, according to the trooper’s report.
