Victim of fatal accident on I-635 identified

The identity of a man who died in a wreck Thursday on I-635 has been released.

Dwayne F. Stout, 51, of Gallatin, Missouri, died in a crash about 4:50 p.m. Thursday, May 26, at northbound I-635 about two-tenths of a mile north of I-70, according to a Kansas Highway Patrol trooper’s report.


Stout was driving a pickup truck that was in an accident with a semi, according to the report.

The Freightliner semi was eastbound on the ramp from eastbound I-70 to northbound I-635, the trooper’s report stated. The Silverado pickup truck was traveling northbound on I-635, according to the report. The semi was hauling a utility trailer, according to the trooper’s report.

The semi failed to negotiate the curve on the ramp, ran off the road to the right and struck the pickup truck, the trooper’s report stated. Both vehicles came to rest in the right side ditch, according to the report.

The semi driver, a 36-year-old man from Aurora, Colorado, had a possible serious injury and was taken to the hospital, the report stated.

A passenger in the semi, a 51-year-old man from Gulfport, Mississippi, had a possible minor injury and was taken to the hospital, according to the trooper’s report.

A passenger in the pickup truck, a 42-year-old Cameron, Missouri, man, was taken to the hospital with a possible serious injury, the trooper’s report stated.

Memorial Day weekend will be sunny, with above normal temperatures and dry conditions, according to the National Weather Service.

Sunny skies and temperatures reaching into the mid-70s are forecast for Friday, the weather service said.

Temperatures will rise to 85 on Saturday, near 89 on Sunday, and 87 on Monday, Memorial Day, according to the weather service.

Tuesday through Wednesday night will bring a chance of rain, the weather service said.

Today, it will be sunny, with a high near 78 and a north northwest wind of 5 to 7 mph, the weather service said.

Tonight, it will be mostly clear, with a low of 60, according to the weather service. A calm wind will become south southeast 5 to 7 mph after midnight.

Saturday, it will be sunny, with a high near 85, the weather service said. A south wind of 9 to 18 mph will gust as high as 30 mph.

Saturday night, it will be partly cloudy, with a low of 71, according to the weather service. A south wind of 11 to 15 mph will gust as high as 26 mph.

Sunday, it will be mostly sunny, with a high near 89, the weather service said. It will be breezy, with a south wind of 14 to 21 mph, gusting as high as 34 mph.

Sunday night, it will be mostly clear, with a low of 74, according to the weather service.

On Monday, Memorial Day, it will be sunny, with a high near 87, and breezy, the weather service said.

Monday night, it will be mostly clear, with a low of 72, according to the weather service.

Tuesday, there is a 40 percent chance of showers and thunderstorms after 1 p.m., with a high near 87, the weather service said.

Tuesday night, there is a 50 percent chance of showers and thunderstorms, with a low of 64, according to the weather service.

Fatal crash reported on I-635

The Kansas Highway Patrol is investigating a fatal crash around 5 p.m. Thursday on I-635.

According to the KHP, a pickup truck was northbound on I-635 when a semi entered northbound I-635 from eastbound I-70 and struck the pickup truck.

The pickup truck driver died in the crash, and a passenger was injured, according to the KHP.

The semi driver and co-driver were injured, the KHP stated.

There are some road closures in the area of the accident.
