Parkwood Pool to open today

Parkwood Pool, 950 Quindaro Blvd., Kansas City, Kansas, will hold its season opening from noon to 6 p.m. Saturday, May 28.

Admission will be free to the public for opening day. Other days, the admission charge is $1. There will be music and giveaways on Saturday.

The pool has been closed since 2019 because of COVID-19 and a shortage of lifeguards.

Special Memorial Day weekend hours for the pool include 2 p.m. to 6 p.m. Sunday, May 29, and noon to 6 p.m. Monday, May 30. Re-entries will pay the entry fee again.

KC Monarchs to play Sioux Falls tonight

The Kansas City Monarchs will play the Sioux Falls Canaries at 6 p.m. Saturday, May 28, at Legends Field, 1800 Village West Parkway, Kansas City, Kansas. Tickets to the baseball game may be purchased by calling 913-328-5618, by visiting monarchsbaseball.com, or at the gate.

Sporting KC at home against Vancouver tonight

Sporting Kansas City will take on the Vancouver Whitecaps at 8 p.m. Saturday, May 28, at Children’s Mercy Park, 1 Sporting Way, Kansas City, Kansas, in MLS action. Tickets are available online at SeatGeek.com, and also at the gate. Saturday will be Sporting Sustainability night, with newly released adidas uniforms. After the match, fans at the match may pick up a reusable tote, and they also may pick up a mailer to take home and fill with gently used clothing donations to the adidas Give Back program.

Offices closed for Memorial Day

Unified Government and Board of Public Utilities’ offices will be closed for the Memorial Day holiday on Monday, May 30.

UG offices will be closed on Monday in observance of Memorial Day, and will reopen Tuesday.

Administrative offices of the Kansas City, Kansas, BPU will be closed Monday, May 30, for Memorial Day.

BPU emergency service is available seven days a week, around the clock. For power emergencies, call 913-573-9522. For water emergencies, call 913-573-9622.

Monday is also a holiday for Kansas and federal employees, and also is a U.S. Postal Service holiday.

Waste Management will not collect trash and recycling items on Monday, May 30, in observance of Memorial Day, according to the UG website.

Residential collections will be delayed by one day the week of Memorial Day. Those whose normal trash day is Monday should place items at the curb on Tuesday. Those whose normal trash day is Friday, June 3, should place items at the curb on Saturday, June 4.

Legends Outlets plans free workout series this summer

Legends Outlets is joining with Deposit the Work and All Things Mikita to offer free workout classes on The Lawn every Saturday this summer, starting June 4.

From June 4 through Aug. 27, people of all ages and fitness levels are invited to attend free workout classes led by Jasper Sanders, a certified personal trainer and founder of Deposit the Work, a lifestyle app that pays users to burn calories, and yoga instructor Mikita Burton.

The summer series will feature a different type of workout session every Saturday morning.

Class types will range from cardio to interval training to yoga and more.

Classes are free and open to the public as space allows. Classes start at 9:30 a.m.
