Windy, high near 67 today

Windy weather is in today’s forecast from the National Weather Service.

After rain and storms on Friday, Saturday’s weather is sunny and windy, gusting up to 32 mph, the weather service said.

Tornadoes were reported Friday night east of Wichita, Andover and at Enterprise, Kansas, which is west of Junction City and east of Abilene.

Showers and thunderstorms will return to the area on Monday, according to the weather service, with a strong storm possible.

Today, it will be mostly sunny, with a high near 67, the weather service said. It will be breezy, with a west wind of 10 to 20 mph, gusting as high as 32 mph.

Tonight, it will be partly cloudy, with a low of 47, according to the weather service. A west wind of 10 to 14 mph will gust as high as 29 mph.

Sunday, it will be sunny, with a high near 70 and a west wind of 10 to 15 mph, gusting as high as 23 mph, the weather service said.

Sunday night, there is a 20 percent chance of showers after 1 a.m., according to the weather service. The low will be around 49 with a west northwest wind of 6 mph, becoming calm.

Monday, there is a 90 percent chance of showers, with possibly a thunderstorm after 10 a.m., the weather service said. The high will be near 66 with an east wind of 7 to 14 mph, gusting as high as 25 mph. Between a half and three-quarters of an inch of rain is possible.

Monday night, there is a 90 percent chance of showers and possibly a thunderstorm before 1 a.m., then a chance of showers and thunderstorms after 1 a.m., according to the weather service. The low will be near 51, with between three-quarters and one inch of rain possible.

Tuesday, it will be mostly cloudy, with a high near 61, the weather service said.

Storm moves into Wyandotte County

Lightning lit up the skies around 10 p.m. Friday in Wyandotte County, outlining the trees. More storms are moving through Wyandotte County, which is under a new thunderstorm warning until 10:45 p.m. Residents are advised to move to the lowest floor of a building, to an interior room. Heavy rain, high winds and pea-size hail was part of this storm.

Lightning, heavy rain, high winds and pea-size hail was reported in Wyandotte County about 10 p.m. Friday, April 29.

At 10:23 p.m. Friday, the Board of Public Utilites’ outage map reported 974 outages in Wyandotte County. These were located in the Merriam Lane area of southeast Kansas City, Kansas.

Brief flickering of power also was seen in other parts of Wyandotte County.

A thunderstorm watch for Wyandotte County was upgraded to a thunderstorm warning through 10:45 p.m. Friday. More storms are moving toward Wyandotte County.

At 10:26 p.m., a thunderstorm was located along a line from near Ferrelview to Shawnee to near Edgerton in Johnson County, moving east at 45 mph, the National Weather Service said. The storm includes 60 mph wind gusts and quarter-size hail. Hail damage to vehicles is expected. Roofs, siding and trees could be damaged.

Residents are advised to move to an interior room on the lowest floor of the building.

Wyandotte County under severe thunderstorm watch

Wyandotte County is under a severe thunderstorm watch from 8:30 p.m. Friday through 4 a.m. Saturday, according to the National Weather Service.

The watch also is in effect for Leavenworth, Johnson, Miami, Atchison, Doniphan and Linn counties, according to the weather service.

Some tornado warnings are in effect for communities to the west of the Greater Kansas City area, including southern Wabaunsee County, which is near Topeka; another tornado warning is in Eureka, in Greenwood County, in the general Wichita area, to the southwest of Kansas City; and a tornado watch is in effect for 20 Kansas counties near the Topeka area.

A new tornado warning has been issued from 9 p.m. to 9:30 p.m. Friday for Atchison County and the city of Atchison. This storm has a possible tornado, half-dollar-size hail and flying debris. Residents there are advised to take cover in an interior room in the lowest floor of their building.
