Victim in fatal traffic accident identified

The victim in the fatal traffic accident on Thursday outside Walmart, 10824 Parallel Parkway, has been identified.

A spokesman for the Kansas City, Kansas, Police Department stated that the victim was Lawrence Edward Walford, 82, a resident of Kansas City, Kansas.

He was struck by a vehicle as he was walking in the parking lot outside the store, according to police.

Walford was taken to a hospital, where he later died of his injuries, the spokesman stated.

A second victim who sustained serious injuries also was taken to the hospital, but has been released, according to the spokesman.

The driver of the vehicle, a 56-year-old woman, remains hospitalized in critical condition, the spokesman stated.

While the incident remains under investigation by the Kansas City, Kansas, Police Department Traffic Division, detectives believe there is nothing at this time to indicate that the accident was intentional, the spokesman stated.
