Another $568 million to be distributed to Madoff victims

More than $568 million will be distributed to victims of the Bernie Madoff Ponzi scheme, according to the U.S. Justice Department.

The Madoff Victim Fund began its seventh distribution of about $568 million in funds forfeited in connection with the Madoff fraud scheme, according to the Justice Department.

Over $3.7 billion has been provided to about 40,000 Madoff victims worldwide, the Justice Department stated. More information on the victim fund is at www.madoffvictimfund.com.

U.S. Justice Department officials called Madoff’s fraud history’s largest Ponzi scheme. It was estimated at over $60 billion.

Madoff pleaded guilty in 2009 to 11 federal felonies. He died in April 2021 while in federal custody.

American Royal Barbecue event kicks off today

The American Royal World Series of Barbecue kicks off Thursday, Sept. 16, at the Kansas Speedway, I-435 and I-70 in Kansas City, Kansas.

The event lasts through Sept. 19.

Barbecue teams compete in this contest, which bills itself as the world’s largest barbecue contest and the American Royal’s largest fundraiser.

Rollover accident reported on I-435

An International truck was northbound on I-435 about eight-tenths of a mile south of K-5 at 1:47 p.m. Wednesday when a tire blew.

According to a Kansas Highway Patrol trooper’s report, the driver lost control of the vehicle, and then the vehicle rolled over in a ditch.

The driver of the truck, a 52-year-old man from Eudora, Kansas, had a possible minor injury and was taken to the hospital, the report stated.
