Free haircuts event rescheduled to Sept. 26

A free haircut, food and clothes event originally scheduled for Sunday, Aug. 29, has been rescheduled to Sept. 26.

According to organizers of the event, a case of COVID-19 has been identified among someone associated with the event. The Jegna Klub has been working to identify close contact to the case, a spokesman stated. Due to barber and volunteer exposure and 10-day quarantines put into effect it has been decided in the best interest of the community to reschedule the Community Haircut Social Round 4 to Sunday, Sept. 26, according to organizers.

The Jegna Klub will give away haircuts, food, shoes and clothes from noon to 6 p.m. Sunday, Sept. 26, to up to 150 kindergarten through 12th grade Wyandotte County students.

The event will be held at the One Touch Building Maintenance Office Building, 221 N. 18th St., Kansas City, Kansas.

Licensed barbers will give free haircuts to the children.

Organizers of the event said they hope it will help boost self-esteem of the children, helping them to achieve more in their studies.

Masks and social distancing will be required at the event.

There will be music, haircuts, food, hygiene kits, donated shoes and clothes, Career Introduction and Training Education sign-up, plus giveaways.

Participating barbershops include Tino’s Chop Shop, Purple Label and the Crown Suite.

Community partners for this event include One Touch Building Maintenance, Dotte Mobile Grocer, WAW Trucking Solutions, Open Arms, Newt’s Unique Kitch, R and R Paseo Grill, Premium Waters, P.R.I.D.E., BPOA, Taste of Flavor, Helping Hands and Bridge of Hope.

Moses Wyatt Jr. is the founder and CEO of the Jegna Klub, a not-for-profit organization.

According to Wyatt, the previous three haircut events have provided a total of 306 haircuts, 400 hot meals, 175 sandwiches, 375 chips, 300 bottles of water, 275 drink pouches, 409 pairs of shoes, 147 pairs of socks, 869 articles of clothing, 192 food boxes and 172 food baskets.
