Food distribution planned today

Free food distribution is planned at noon Monday, Aug. 23, at the Kansas City Kansas Community College Dr. Thomas Burke Technical Education Center, 6565 State Ave.

The food distribution is a joint effort by Harvesters, Kansas City Kansas Community College, Providence YMCA-Ball Family Center, Providence Medical Center and Humana.

The food distribution is open to the public. Identification is not required. Proof of need also is not required.

The event is scheduled to run until 1:30 p.m., but it is first-come, first-served.

BPU to hold special session Monday

The Kansas City, Kansas, Board of Public Utilities will hold a special meeting at 5 p.m. Monday, Aug. 23, in the BPU board room.

There will be telephone and internet access for the public.

The board will move into a closed, executive session to discuss labor issues, according to the meeting notice.

The public may access the public portion of the meeting through the telephone, or if they have access to the internet, they can click on a Zoom meeting.

UG committees to meet Monday

Two Unified Government committees will meet on Monday, Aug. 23, starting at 5 p.m.

The Public Works and Safety Committee will open at 5 p.m.

On the agenda for the PWS Committee:
• A resolution authorizing agreements between the Unified Government and Turner and Piper school districts to provide a school resource officer at the two districts;
• The 2021 fireworks report;
• A Fire Department quarterly update; and
• A presentation of honorary street signs for Pandarama Pre-schools on Nebraska Avenue between 7th and 8th streets.
The UG Administration and Human Services Committee meeting will follow.

On the agenda for the AHS meeting:

A records management policy; and
An update on external and internal communications, and an action plan.
