Hospital reports fireworks injuries

Nine cumulative fireworks injuries were reported since Friday by the University of Kansas Hospital’s Burnett Burn Center in Kansas City, Kansas.

Most of the fireworks injuries were to hands and eyes, according to a spokesman. Mortar and smoke bombs were the cause of most injuries.

Patients’ ages ranged from 5 to 65, the spokesman stated.

One person was admitted to the hospital for injuries, according to the spokesman.

Today a holiday for many

Monday, July 5, is a holiday for many government workers, celebrating Independence Day, which fell on a Sunday this year.

Federal, state and local government workers will have the day off on Monday. The Unified Government and Board of Public Utilities administrative offices are closed today for the holiday.

U.S. Postal Service will not be making regular home deliveries today, as it is a legal federal and USPS holiday.

According to the UG’s social media site, residential trash and recycling is on its regular schedule today and this week, from July 5 to 9, with trash pickup and recycling today.

There are no Unified Government committee meetings scheduled tonight.

It is not legal to shoot fireworks on Monday in Kansas City, Kansas. The legal period to shoot fireworks was July 2 to 4.
