Foodie park on UG committee agenda tonight

An amendment to the KC Foodie Park development agreement will be on tonight’s Economic Development and Finance Committee meeting tonight.

The EDF meeting will begin after the end of the Neighborhood and Community Development meeting, which starts at 5 p.m. June 28.

Scavuzzo’s Foodie Park is a plan to remodel the former Indian Springs mall area at 47th and State Avenue, Kansas City, Kansas.

The fourth amendment modifies redevelopment project plans for the second, third and fourth project areas.

The second project area deadline would be extended from July 15, 2021, to Jan. 15, 2022; the third project area deadline would be extended from July 15, 2022, to Jan. 15, 2023; and the fourth project area deadline would be extended from July 15, 2024, to Jan. 15, 2024, according to the proposal.

The phase 2 property closing deadline is proposed to be extended from Dec. 31, 2021; to June 30, 2022; the third phase property closing deadline is proposed to be extended from Dec. 31, 2022, to June 30, 2023; and the fourth phase property closing deadline is proposed to be extended from Dec. 31, 2024, to June 30, 2025.

Completion dates for the second phase are proposed to be within 24 months after the closing on the second phase property, according to the proposal.

On the agenda for the Neighborhood and Community Development committee meeting at 5 p.m. Monday, June 28, are Land Bank option applications.

The Land Bank applications include:

• New construction, row homes, eight units and eight accessory dwelling units: Bart Maffry, seven Land Bank lots, 824 Freeman; 826 Freeman; 830 Freeman; 832 Freeman; 834 Freeman; 838 Freeman; and 840 Freeman.

• New construction, commercial multi-purpose community center, Metropolitan Leadership Institute, 500 Freeman Ave. The Land Bank Advisory Board wants the application held until the applicant holds a community meeting.

• New construction, commercial, storage facility. David L. Spehar, requesting four Land Bank lots: 525 N. 61st St., 525R N. 61st St.; 411 N. 61st St.; 421 N. 61st St. Total, 33.38 acres. Staff and Land Bank Advisory Board do not recommend approval.

Fatal accident reported on I-70

A fatal accident was reported at 4:37 p.m. Sunday, June 27, on westbound I-70 in Kansas City, Kansas.

According to the Kansas Highway Patrol trooper’s report, a GMC Jimmy was westbound on I-70 when it changed lanes, lost control and overturned multiple times.

The driver, Brian Hanna, 63, of Kansas City, Kansas, was taken to a local hospital, where he was pronounced dead. He was wearing a seat belt.

The location of the accident was between the I-435 and the 78th Street exits on I-70.

Light rain was reported in the Kansas City area on Sunday afternoon, according to the National Weather Service.

CBC blood drives scheduled in Wyandotte County

There is an urgent need for blood donations, according to the CBC, which has announced a blood emergency.
