Victim of homicide at 40th and Barber Court identified

The victim of a homicide on Saturday at 40th and Barber Court has been identified, according to a Kansas City, Kansas, Police Department spokesman.

The victim was Darrin Fry, 18, according to police.

Police officers responded to a shooting call at 40th and Barber Court at 1:20 a.m. Saturday, the spokesman stated.

When they arrived, officers found Fry outside a residence, the victim of an apparent shooting, according to the spokesman. He was pronounced dead at the scene, the spokesman stated. There were no arrests.

The Kansas City, Kansas, Police Department’s Major Case Unit is investigating. Anyone with information on this case is asked to call the TIPS hotline at 816-474-TIPS, according to the spokesman.

Suspect in fatal shooting at 18th and Parallel identified

The suspect who died in a fatal shooting Sunday at 18th and Parallel has been identified, according to a Kansas City, Kansas, police spokesman.

The suspect was Dario Dominguez, 25, a resident of Kansas City, Kansas, the spokesman stated.

According to records from the Kansas Department of Corrections, Dominguez served time at El Dorado, Lansing and Hutchinson state corrections facilities for aggravated burglary and robbery before being released in October of 2020.

He was convicted of aggravated robbery and aggravated burglary that occurred on April 2, 2015, in Wyandotte County, according to KDOC records. Dominguez, who also went by the nicknames of Shy Boy, Crook and Spooky, was written up in prison for violations such as fighting, contraband and being intoxicated, according to KDOC records.

According to police, a pursuit of Dominguez, a carjacking suspect, began Sunday in Kansas City, Missouri, by the Kansas City, Missouri, Police Department. Dominguez drove into Kansas City, Kansas, and the pursuit was joined by Kansas City, Kansas, officers.

It ended as Dominguez crashed the vehicle he was driving, then started to run, according to the police spokesman. After leaving the vehicle, Dominguez ran toward 18th Street, turned and fired at police, the police spokesman stated. Police fired back, striking Dominguez, according to the spokesman. Dominguez was taken to the hospital, and later died from his injuries.

Dominguez had been driving a Ford Expedition that was reported stolen in an armed carjacking late last week in Kansas City, Kansas, police stated. Dominguez had been identified as the suspect in the carjacking.

The police spokesman stated that the initial investigation included a review of footage from in-car and body cameras that were worn by all officers involved.
A multi-agency task force including members of the Kansas City, Kansas, Police Department, Wyandotte County Sheriff’s Department and the Wyandotte County district attorney’s office is investigating the incident.
