Wyandotte’s Calhoun, Bonner’s Noel bring home state gold

The KSHSAA 5A and 6A track and field meets were held Thursday at Cessna Stadium in Wichita, featuring several local athletes in the competition.

Wyandotte’s Malike Calhoun earned top honors in the 6A boys’ triple jump, with a jump of 45 feet, 4.5 inches. Calhoun also placed 8th in the long jump.

Bonner Springs thrower Mariyah Noel took first place in the 5A girls’ discus throw with a distance of 129 feet, 6 inches.

Multiple accidents reported on area highways

A number of accidents have been reported on area highways as heavy rains fell this afternoon.

According to KC Scout, accidents were reported at:


• Northbound I-435 near Donahoo Road.
• Southbound I-435 at State Avenue.
• Southbound I-435 near I-70.
• Eastbound I-70 near 78th St.

Flash flood warning issued for Wyandotte County

The National Weather Service has issued a flash flood warning for Wyandotte County and surrounding areas.

Heavy rains today may cause urban and small stream flooding, the weather service said.

Up to 1.5 inches of rain fell earlier today in the area and an additional half-inch to 1 inch of rain is expected, resulting in minor flooding, the weather service said.

Motorists are advised to turn around and take another route if they encounter a flooded road, according to the weather service.
