The Kansas City, Kansas, Police Department has canceled its search for a missing woman believed to be the victim of a kidnapping, according to a police spokesman. Late this afternoon Laneia Taylor, a Kansas City, Kansas resident, was received into police custody.
The person of interest in the kidnapping and in a homicide in the 1800 block of Minnesota Avenue on Saturday is still at large, police stated.
Kenneth N. Crowley, 27, may be driving a dark blue 2006 Hyundai Azera with Kansas license plate 878JAD, police stated.
Officers were initially dispatched to a residence in the 1800 block of Minnesota on a reported body inside a residence, police said. When they arrived, officers found a deceased male in his early 40s, a spokesman stated.
Based on the initial investigation, Crowley was identified as a person of interest and Taylor as a potential kidnapping victim in relation to the homicide, police stated.
The incident is under investigation by the Kansas City, Kansas, Police Department’s Major Case Unit. Anyone with information on the whereabouts of Crowley, or any information related to the case, is urged to call the Police Department at 913-596-3000 or the TIPS hotline at 816-474-TIPS, police said.

The police also are seeking assistance in locating Laneia Taylor, 37, a possible kidnapping victim, according to the spokesman.
Crowley and Taylor are believed to be in a dark blue 2006 Hyundai Azera with Kansas license plate 898JAD, the spokesman stated.

At about 5:01 p.m. Saturday, officers were dispatched to the 1800 block of Minnesota Avenue. When they arrived, officers found a man in his early 40s, deceased inside the residence, according to a spokesman.
The incident is being investigated by the Kansas City, Kansas, Police Department Major Case Unit, the spokesman stated.

Wyandotte County reported an increase of 32 COVID-19 cases on Saturday, Jan. 30, according to the Unified Government’s COVID-19 webpage. There were a cumulative 16,946 cases. There was a cumulative total of 222 deaths, an increase of one since Friday.
The Mid-America Regional Council’s COVID-19 dashboard reported 148,156 cumulative COVID-19 cases on Saturday. There were 1,852 cumulative deaths, and 127 was the daily average of new hospitalizations.
The state of Kansas reported 274,685 COVID-19 cases statewide on Friday, an increase of 2,168 cases since Wednesday, according to the Kansas Department of Health and Environment. There were an additional 61 deaths reported, with a cumulative total of 3,779.
The Johns Hopkins University COVID-19 dashboard on Saturday night reported 26,072,555 cumulative cases in the United States, with 439,530 total deaths nationwide.
Free COVID-19 tests Monday
The Unified Government Health Department’s COVID-19 test site at the former Kmart building at 78th and State will be open from 9 a.m. to 3 p.m. on Monday, Feb. 1. Appointments are not needed for tests. To see if there is any change to the schedule, visit https://www.facebook.com/UGHealthDept.
The UG Health Department recently added flu testing to the COVID-19 test at the Kmart building. Only one swab is used for the two tests. The Health Department estimates a two- to three-day wait for COVID-19 results. For the flu, the department only contacts people if it is positive.
Tests from the Health Department are free for those who live or work in Wyandotte County. The tests are nasopharyngeal swab tests. The Health Department no longer uses saliva tests.
The tests are open to asymptomatic people as well as those who have symptoms or have been exposed to COVID-19. Check with the UG Health Department’s Facebook page to see if there have been any changes in the schedule. Bring something that shows that you live or work in Wyandotte County, such as a utility bill.
