Weather: Cool, dry weekend ahead

A cool and dry weekend is ahead for Wyandotte County, according to the National Weather Service forecast.

Temperatures were 37 degrees at 9 a.m., with a wind chill of 32 degrees, the weather service said. The temperature will reach only about 50 degrees today.

A surface cold front is moving through the region this morning, ushering in a surface high, according to the weather service. Any temperature increases through the day will be tempered by the cooler air moving through the area.

Saturday and Sunday will probably see no precipitation, the weather service said. Any rain likely will be well south of the Kansas City area.

Next week, another cold front will arrive on Monday, when temperatures will struggle to get out of the mid-30s, according to the weather service. A north wind may be 20 to 30 mph on Monday, dropping the wind chill to an uncomfortable level.

Cold Canadian air will be coming to Kansas City, Kansas, during the middle to latter part of next week, the weather service said.

The forecast for Sporting KC’s Dec. 2 home Western Conference semifinals match against Minnesota in Kansas City, Kansas, will be cold. Temperatures will reach a high of about 41 Wednesday, dropping to an overnight low of 27 on Wednesday night, according to the weather service.

Today, it will be sunny, with a high near 50, and a north northwest wind of 5 to 8 mph gusting as high as 20 mph, the weather service said.

Tonight, it will be clear, with a low of 31 and a calm wind becoming southwest around 5 mph after midnight, according to the weather service.

Saturday, it will be sunny, with a high near 55 and a southwest wind of 5 to 8 mph, the weather service said.

Saturday night, it will be partly cloudy, with a low of 35 and a south southwest wind of 6 mph becoming calm after midnight, according to the weather service.

Sunday, it will be mostly sunny, with a high near 47 and a light and variable wind becoming north 12 to 17 mph in the morning, with wind gusts up to 29 mph, the weather service said.

Sunday night, it will be clear, with a low of 25, according to the weather service.

Monday, it will be sunny, with a high near 36, the weather service said.

Monday night, it will be clear, with a low of 21, according to the weather service.

Tuesday, it will be sunny, with a high near 41, the weather service said.

Tuesday night, it will be partly cloudy, with a low of 26, according to the weather service.

Wednesday, it will be mostly sunny, with a high near 41, the weather service said.

Wednesday night, it will be partly cloudy, with a low of 27, according to the weather service.

Thursday, it will be mostly sunny, with a high near 40, the weather service said.

COVID-19 cases updated

Wyandotte County reported an additional 65 COVID-19 cases on Thursday, Nov. 26, according to the Unified Government COVID-19 webpage. There was a cumulative total of 10.710 cases.

There was one additional COVID-19 death reported on Thursday, Nov. 26, in Wyandotte County, for a cumulative total of 178.

The Kansas City Region COVID-19 Resource Hub reported 86,088 total cumulative cases on Thursday, an increase of 384 cases since Wednesday in the nine-county area. There were 1,072 cumulative deaths, an additional two since Wednesday.

The average daily new COVID-19 hospitalizations in the nine-county area were 167, which I down slightly. There was an average of 752 COVID-19 patients in the hospital in the nine-county area, which is steady.

The average daily number on ventilators in the nine-county area is 111, which is increasing since last week, and the average daily number of COVID-19 patients in the intensive care unit is 195, also increasing since last week, according to the KC Region COVID-19 dashboard.

The United States had 12,883,264 cumulative COVID-19 cases on Thursday, Nov. 26, according to the Johns Hopkins COVID-19 dashboard. There were a total 263,454 deaths in the United States on Thursday.

COVID-19 testing available Monday

Free COVID-19 testing by the UG Health Department will be available on Monday, Nov. 30. There will be no UG Health Department testing on Thursday and Friday of this week, because of the holiday.
