Questions and answers about the new health order

Some questions and answers about the new health order in Wyandotte County that restricts gatherings to 10 or fewer, has 50 percent capacity restrictions for some buildings and closes bars and restaurants at 10 p.m.

The order takes effect at 12:01 a.m. Friday. Answers are from Janell Friesen, spokesman for the Unified Government Health Department.

There is a provision in the new health order that states violations are a Class C misdemeanor, punishable by a maximum fine of $500 and a 30-day jail sentence.

Question: Will this new health order have any effect on the Mayor’s KCK downtown Christmas event, which is Friday? Also, on the Sporting KC playoff game that is Nov. 22?

Answer:
• The Mayor’s Christmas tree lighting event was already going to primarily be a drive-through event, with people inside their vehicles.
• Sporting KC has already been operating with a capacity well below 50% and requiring social distancing and masks.

Question: What effect will this health order have on sports that are school sporting events, and also on club sports events?

Answer: Sports venues/events would need to follow the 50% capacity requirement. Additionally, we still have winter sports recommendations in place that we encourage schools and clubs to take into consideration.

Question: As restaurant parties are limited to 8 or fewer parties in the new order, does that mean 8 groups of people, or does it mean 8 people?

Answer: This means 8 people per party/group (e.g. 8 people seated together at a restaurant).
