Warm and humid weather continues today, and a cold front will move into the region from the north late Monday, bringing a chance of thunderstorms, the weather service said.

On Monday night, a few storms may be strong to severe, with damaging hail and wind possible with the strongest storms, according to the weather service.

Today, the high will be near 93 with a heat index as high as 96, the weather service said. It will be breezy, with a south southwest wind of 17 to 21 mph, gusting as high as 34 mph.

Tonight, it will be mostly clear, with a low of 70 and a southwest wind of 8 to 16 mph, gusting as high as 26 mph, according to the weather service.

Monday, Labor Day, there is a 20 percent chance of showers and thunderstorms after 3 p.m., according to the weather service. The high will be near 87, while an east northeast wind of 6 to 13 mph may gust up to 20 mph.

Monday night, there is a 60 percent chance of showers and thunderstorms, followed by more showers and a thunderstorm after 1 a.m., according to the weather service. The low will be around 59 with an east southeast wind of 9 to 11 mph becoming north northeast after midnight. Less than a tenth of an inch of rain is possible.

Tuesday, there is a 100 percent chance of showers and possibly a thunderstorm, the weather service said. The high will be near 67 with a north wind of 6 to 13 mph, gusting as high as 25 mph. Between a quarter and half-inch of rain is possible.

Tuesday night, there is an 80 percent chance of showers and possibly a thunderstorm before 1 a.m., then a chance of showers and thunderstorms between 1 a.m. and 4 a.m., followed by a chance of showers after 4 a.m., according to the weather service. The low will be around 50. Between a quarter and half-inch of rain is possible.

Wednesday, there is a 70 percent chance of showers, with a high near 58, the weather service said.

Thursday, there is a 30 percent chance of showers and thunderstorms, with a high near 63, the weather service said.

Wyandotte County is in Phase 3 under Kansas Ad Astra reopening plan. Local health officials said under Phase 3, people should keep a distance of 6 feet between themselves and others. They may sit closer to people who live in their households. Also, people should wear masks and should wash hands or use hand sanitizer. There is a mask order in effect in Wyandotte County, requiring masks to be worn inside any public space.

Some faith groups will continue holding online or video services. In Wyandotte County, those who are older than 60 or who have other medical conditions should continue being very cautious, according to the Wyandotte County health officials. Those who are sick should stay home, according to officials.

Wyandotte County reported 45 additional COVID-19 cases on Saturday, according to the Unified Government COVID-19 webpage. There were 6,125 total cumulative COVID-19 cases in Wyandotte County, according to the webpage. According to the Kansas Department of Health and Environment, there were 542 total outbreaks reported, with 182 active outbreaks in Kansas on Friday. These outbreaks accounted for 10,751 cases and 308 deaths in Kansas, according to the KDHE.

The MARC KC Region COVID-19 Resource Hub reported 34,832 cumulative cases in the nine-county Kansas City region on Saturday.

Johnson County had 131 additional cases for a cumulative 8,653, with a total of 121 deaths. Jackson County reported 5,735 cumulative cases, with 107 new cases. • Medicalodge of Kansas City, 6500 Greeley Ave., 53 cases, last known case reported Aug. 11.

• A&K Railroad Materials, 2134 S. 74th St., 15 cases, last known case reported Aug. 12.

• Tyson, 4612 Speaker Road, 8 cases, last known case reported Aug. 15.

• Tippin’s Pies, 5051 Speaker Road, 5 cases, last known case reported Aug. 21.

• Boys and Girls Club of Greater Kansas City, 1240 Troup Ave., 7 cases, last known case reported Aug. 24.

• We Buy BlaKCK Event, 1800 Quindaro Blvd., 8 cases, last known case reported Aug. 8.

In addition, the Kansas City, Kansas, Board of Public Utilities had two employees who tested positive and were quarantined, according to a report by the general manager at the Sept. 2 BPU meeting. Also, seven other employees were quarantined but had not tested positive, he said at the meeting.

The Wyandotte County K-State Research and Extension office reported Friday that one of its staff had tested positive for COVID-19. The office will be closed to the public for one week, according to an announcement. The staff will work remotely until Monday, Sept. 14, according to the announcement.

Testing to resume Tuesday

The UG Health Department will be closed on Monday, Sept. 7, for Labor Day, and testing will be closed Monday. Testing will resume from 9 a.m. to 3 p.m. Tuesday, Sept. 8, at the Health Department parking lot, 6th and Ann, Kansas City, Kansas.
