Commercial burglary reported on Merriam Lane

A commercial burglary was reported at 10:21 a.m. Sept. 12 in the 1300 block of Merriam Lane, according to a social media post by the Kansas City, Kansas, Police Department.

According to the report, an unknown suspect gained entry in the business, removing an extensive amount of property and committing further damage.

Disturbance reported on Sewell

Officers responded to a dispatched disturbance – trespassing call at 3:26 pm. Sept. 12 in the 2800 block of Sewell Avenue, according to a social media post by the Kansas City, Kansas, Police Department.

Officers tried to take the suspect into custody for trespassing, the report stated.

When officers attempted to place the suspect into custody, a fight ensued, according to the report. The suspect struck the officer as they fell over a wall, causing injury, according to the report. The suspect was taken into custody.

Theft from ATM reported on State Avenue

A theft from an ATM was reported at 8:39 p.m. Sept. 12 in the 8100 block of State Avenue, according to a social media post by the Kansas City, Kansas, Police Department.

An ATM service agent stated that a male suspect entered the location while the ATM was being serviced, according to the report. The suspect reached over him and collected a large amount of cash, the report stated. The suspect then fled in a vehicle, according to the report.

Vehicle stolen on Everett

A vehicle was stolen at 9:29 p.m. Sept. 12 in the 6100 block of Everett Avenue, according to a social media post by the Kansas City, Kansas, Police Department.

The victim was sitting at a stop sign when she was approached by a male with a weapon, according to the report. The suspect demanded her vehicle while brandishing the weapon, the report stated.

The victim left the vehicle and hid on the ground in the bushes until the suspect had fled, according to the report.

Vehicle crashes into police

Officers were at the 8000 block of Washington Avenue at 11:29 p.m. Sept. 12 after locating a vehicle involved in an aggravated robbery and felony theft, according to a social media post by the Kansas City, Kansas, Police Department.

While blocking traffic with directional lights on, and awaiting crime scene investigators to complete processing the suspect vehicle, an additional suspect struck the police vehicle from the rear, causing moderate damage, according to the report.

The driver was processed for suspicion of driving under intoxication, according to the report.

Shooting death reported in 1100 block of Central

Kansas City, Kansas, police are conducting a death investigation into a shooting at about 9:52 a.m. Sunday, Sept. 13, in the 1100 block of Central Avenue.

Police responded to a dispatcher’s shots fired call and discovered a male victim, 41 years old, with one apparent gunshot wound, according to a police spokesman.

The victim was deceased upon arrival, the spokesman stated.

A person of interest was identified and is cooperating with law enforcement, according to the spokesman.

Wyandotte County is in Phase 3 under Kansas Ad Astra reopening plan. Local health officials said under Phase 3, people should keep a distance of 6 feet between themselves and others. They may sit closer to people who live in their households. Also, people should wear masks and should wash hands or use hand sanitizer. There is a mask order in effect in Wyandotte County, requiring masks to be worn inside any public space.


Some faith groups will continue holding online or video services. In Wyandotte County, those who are older than 60 or who have other medical conditions should continue being very cautious, according to the Wyandotte County health officials. Those who are sick should stay home, according to officials.
