Aggravated domestic battery reported

During a physical altercation, a suspect sat on the chest of a victim and placed his hands around the throat of the victim, restraining her breathing, at 2:15 a.m. Aug. 1, according to a social media post by the Kansas City, Kansas, Police Department.

The suspect was taken into custody, according to the report.

Robbery reported near 38th and Leavenworth Road

A victim said a suspect took money from her at 10:20 p.m. Aug. 1 in the 3800 block of Leavenworth Road, according to a social media post by the Kansas City, Kansas, Police Department.

The suspect fled before officers arrived, according to the report. There were no injuries.

Shooting reported on Kansas Avenue

A shooting into an occupied vehicle was reported at 10:10 p.m. Aug. 1 in the south 1000 block of Kansas Avenue, according to a social media post by the Kansas City, Kansas, Police Department.

Suspects pulled up to the victims’ vehicle and fired several rounds into the victims’ vehicle, according to the report.

There were minor injuries, the report stated.

Faith news

Wyandotte County is in Phase 3 under Kansas Ad Astra reopening plan. Local health officials said under Phase 3, people should keep a distance of 6 feet between themselves and others. They may sit closer to people who live in their households. Also, people should wear masks and should wash hands or use hand sanitizer. There is now a mask order in effect in Kansas and Wyandotte County, requiring masks to be worn inside any public space.


Some faith groups will continue holding online or video services. In Wyandotte County, those who are older than 60 or who have other medical conditions should continue being very cautious, according to the Wyandotte County health officials Those who are sick should stay home, according to officials.

Stony Point Christian Church, 149 S. 78th St., Kansas City, Kansas, plans to livestream at 10:15 a.m. Sunday, Aug. 2, on its Facebook page at https://www.facebook.com/StonyPointChristianChurch, and people are welcome to attend the service in person, using social distancing and other health measures. Children’s church is also planned.


St. Patrick Catholic Church, Kansas City, Kansas, has a Mass online for Sunday, Aug. 2, at https://www.facebook.com/StPatrickKCK. St. Patrick Church also has returned to in-person Masses.

St. Paul’s Episcopal Church, Kansas City, Kansas, is planning livestream services on Facebook on Sunday, Aug. 2. See stpaulskck.org and https://www.facebook.com/StPaulsKCK/.


Sunset Hills Christian Church, 6347 Leavenworth Road, Kansas City, Kansas, plans to livestream at 9:30 a.m. each Sunday on the Facebook page of Pastor Mike Barnett, https://www.facebook.com/mike.barnett.528. Services are also provided through checkout of DVD or SD Card and can be sent by email upon request. People are welcome to attend the service in person using social distancing and other health measures. Masks are available or bring your own to wear.


Wyandotte United Methodist Church, 7901 Oakland Ave., is planning drive-through communion from 11 a.m. to noon Sunday, Aug. 2, in the church west parking lot. Those participating will enter the parking lot from the west, remain in their car, receive communion and a prayer from the pastor, and exit to the east. Turner Diagonal project temporarily closes I-70 from I-635 to I-435

I-70 is now closed between I-635 and I-435 for bridge removal and pipe placement on the Turner Diagonal.

I-70 will reopen at 6 a.m. Monday, Aug. 3, according to the Kansas Department of Transportation. The detour route is on State Avenue.

The bridge project on the Turner Diagonal also includes lane and ramp closures around the Turner Diagonal.


Detours routes will be marked. Traffic on all these projects will be diverted using lane and ramp closures, signs and traffic cones, according to a Kansas Department of Transportation spokesman.


West ramps
The following ramps are currently closed until Sept. 8. The ramps include:
• Ramp from eastbound I-70 to southbound Turner Diagonal,
• Ramp from eastbound I-70 to northbound Turner Diagonal,
• Ramp from northbound Turner Diagonal to westbound I-70,
• Ramp from southbound Turner Diagonal to westbound I-70.


East ramps and Turner Diagonal
Starting Friday, July 31, weather permitting, the following ramps and lanes will be closed until Sept. 8:


Closed at 5 a.m. Friday:
• Ramp from southbound Turner Diagonal to eastbound I-70,
• Ramp from northbound Turner Diagonal to eastbound I-70,
• Ramp from westbound I-70 to southbound Turner Diagonal,
• Ramp from westbound I-70 to northbound College Parkway,
• Turner Diagonal from State Avenue to Riverview Avenue.

Full I-70 lane and ramp closures
Also, Friday, July 31, from 10 p.m. to 6 a.m. Monday, Aug. 3, there will be a full closure of both eastbound and westbound I-70, from I-435 to I-635 for bridge removal and pipe placement at the Turner Diagonal. The detour route will go north to use State Avenue.


Ramps closed Friday, 9 p.m. to 6 a.m., Monday:
• Ramp from northbound I-435 to eastbound I-70,
• Ramp from southbound I-435 to eastbound I-70,
• Ramp from 78th Street to eastbound I-70,
• Ramp from northbound I-635 to westbound I-70,
• Ramp from southbound I-635 to westbound I-70,
• Ramp from 57th Street to westbound I-70.


The KDOT spokesman urged all motorists to be alert and obey the warning signs when approaching and driving through a highway work zone.
