BPU to meet tonight

The Board of Public Utilities will meet tonight in a remote Zoom meeting.

The meeting will be at 6 p.m. Wednesday, Aug. 5. The BPU’s facilities are currently closed to the public because of COVID-19.

On the agenda for the meeting are a visitors’ time, COVID-19 and CARES Act update, June financial report, second quarter financial report, Rosedale reliability project – Argentine distribution, water maintenance analysis, miscellaneous comments and board comments.

Access to the meeting will be available through the internet and by telephone.

The public may access the meeting through the telephone to listen in and if they have access to the internet, they can also click on Zoom meeting.

During the public comment section of the agenda, community members will be asked to provide their name and address and will then have 5 minutes to speak.

Three persons shot on North 55th Drive

Three persons were shot about 4:19 p.m. Aug. 4 in the 1300 block of North 55th Drive, according to the Kansas City, Kansas, Police Department.

According to police, the victims went to the suspect’s house for unknown reasons. When the suspect arrived, he produced a handgun and told them to leave, the report stated.

Then he produced a rifle and ordered them to leave again, according to the report. During a verbal altercation, the suspect began firing at the victims, striking three of them, the report stated.

The victims fled and flagged down officers at 48th and Parallel Parkway.

Sunny, mild weather today, chance of storms on Thursday

Today’s weather will be sunny and mild, with a high near 80, according to the National Weather Service. On Thursday, there will be a chance of rain and storms.

The chance of storms increases Thursday night to Friday morning, although the threat of severe weather is low through Saturday afternoon, the weather service said.

Hail is possible Saturday night into Sunday morning, according to the weather service.

Today, it will be sunny, with a high near 80 and a calm wind becoming south around 6 mph in the afternoon, the weather service said.

Tonight, it will be mostly clear, with a low of 62 and a southeast wind around 7 mph, according to the weather service.

Thursday, there is a 20 percent chance of showers and thunderstorms, with a high near 83 and a south southeast wind of 5 to 7 mph, the weather service said.

Thursday night, there is a 50 percent chance of showers and thunderstorms, mainly after 1 a.m., according to the weather service. The low will be around 70 with a southeast wind of 3 to 6 mph. Between a tenth and quarter-inch of rain is possible.

Friday, there is a 40 percent chance of showers and thunderstorms before 1 p.m., with a high near 87, the weather service said. A south wind of 7 to 10 mph will gust as igh as 22 mph. Between a tenth and quarter-inch of rain is possible.

Friday night, there is a 20 percent chance of showers and thunderstorms after 1 a.m., with a low of 75, according to the weather service. The low will be around 75.

Saturday, it will be mostly sunny, with a high near 94, the weather service said.

Saturday night, it will be partly cloudy, with a low of 76, according to the weather service.

Sunday, it will be partly sunny, with a high near 93, the weather service said.
