Democrats to hold Zoom meeting Saturday

The Wyandotte County Third Saturday Breakfast forum will hold a Zoom meeting at 9 a.m. Saturday, Aug. 15.

The guest speakers will be U.S. Rep. Sharice Davids, D-3rd Dist., and U.S. Senate candidate Barbara Bollier.

Police notes

Shooting reported on North 80th Terrace

Officers responded to a shots fired call about 12:21 a.m. Aug. 13 in the 600 block of North 80th Terrace, according to a social media post by the Kansas City, Kansas, Police Department.

The victim stated that she was in bed when she heard gunshots and took cover, the report stated.

An investigation showed that bullets had struck the residents, according to the report. There were no injuries. Detectives responded and took statements.

Shooting reported on South 10th

Dispatchers received several calls from neighbors in the area about a rolling gun battle along 10th Street at 3:47 p.m. Aug. 13 in the 300 and 500 blocks of South 10th.

Officers and detectives responded and found a business that had sustained damage, according to the report.

Driver allegedly in possession of marijuana

A driver was stopped at 7:10 p.m. Aug. 13 in the 4700 block of Parallel Parkway because the vehicle did not have tags, according to a social media post by the Kansas City, Kansas, Police Department.

The driver didn’t have a driver’s license, and an odor of marijuana was detected, according to police. After the driver was detained, a loaded handgun and a bag of marijuana was found on the seat next to the driver, the report stated.

Two more bags of marijuana and a loaded magazine were found in the driver’s pockets, the report stated. The driver was a convicted felon, according to police, and was booked on a 48-hour hold.

Eastbound I-70 truck staging area at Turner Diagonal to open today

The eastbound I-70 truck staging area at the Turner Diagonal will reopen to trucks today, while the westbound truck area will close late this afternoon, according to KDOT. (KDOT photo)

As part of the Turner Diagonal Interchange Improvement project, the eastbound I-70 truck staging area will reopen to trucks, while the westbound I-70 truck staging area will close late afternoon Friday, Aug. 14.

Eastbound I-70 truck staging area will reopen to trucks for parking, weather permitting. The area has been repaved and reconfigured to allow for additional trucks and better traffic flow.

In addition, in the early evening of Friday, Aug. 14, the westbound I-70 truck staging area will close to truck traffic and remain closed until early November.

The westbound truck staging area will be repaved and reconfigured. The Kansas Highway Patrol building is also being reconstructed at that location.
