Aggravated burglary reported

Officers responded to a burglary call about 1 a.m. Aug. 16 in the 4900 block of Crest Drive, according to a social media post from the Kansas City, Kansas, Police Department.

When they arrived, victims said that unknown suspects had entered the residence without permission. The suspects removed several electronic items from the house and fled, according to the report. Evidence was recovered from the scene.

Victim confronts suspect

Officers responded to a burglary report at 2 a.m. Aug. 16 in the 300 block of North 7th Street, according to a social media post by the Kansas City, Kansas, Police Department.

The victim said she had returned home and found the suspect inside her house.

The victim confronted the suspect and demanded her property be returned; then the suspect pushed her out of the way and fled, the report stated.

The suspect was located and taken into custody, and booked in the jail, according to the report. Detectives were notified.

Quiet weather with below normal temperatures are in the forecast this week, according to the National Weather Service.

Highs in the lower to mid-80s and lows in the low to mid-60s are forecast through Friday, the weather service said. A cold front is moving through the area today.

Today, it will be sunny with a high near 87 and a north northwest wind of 7 to 13 mph, gusting as high as 18 mph, the weather service said.

Tonight, it will be mostly clear, with a low of 63 and a north wind of 5 to 9 mph becoming light after midnight, according to the weather service.

Tuesday, it will be sunny with a high near 84 and a north wind of 5 to 8 mph, the weather service said.

Tuesday night, it will be mostly clear, with a low of 60 and a light and variable wind, according to the weather service.

Wednesday, it will be sunny, with a high near 84 and a light southeast wind, the weather service said.

Wednesday night, it will be mostly clear, with a low of 62, according to the weather service.

Thursday, it will be sunny, with a high near 86, the weather service said.

Thursday night, it will be partly cloudy, with a low of 64, according to the weather service.

Friday, it will be mostly sunny, with a high near 87, the weather service said.

Friday night, it will be mostly clear, with a low of 66, according to the weather service.

Saturday, it will be sunny, with a high near 88, the weather service said.

Saturday night, it will be mostly clear, with a low of 65, according to the weather service.

Sunday, it will be sunny, with a high near 86, the weather service said.

Increase seen in COVID-19 numbers

There was an increase of 62 COVID-19 cases since Saturday in Wyandotte County, according to the Unified Government COVID-19 webpage. (From UG COVID-19 webpage)

The Unified Government COVID-19 webpage reported 5,284 cumulative cases on at 1 p.m. Sunday, Aug. 16, an increase of 62 since Saturday.

There were no new deaths reported, with the cumulative total the same at 107, according to the UG COVID-19 website.

Free testing offered


Free COVID-19 testing is planned from 8 a.m. to 11 a.m. Monday, Aug. 17, at Oak Ridge Baptist Church, 9301 Parallel Parkway, Kansas City, Kansas, through Vibrant Health and the Health Equity Task Force.


Free testing also is offered from 9 a.m. to 3 p.m. Monday through Friday at the Unified Government Health Department parking lot at 6th and Ann, Kansas City, Kansas. For more information, call 311.
