Shots fired on North 3rd

Officers responded to a call that shots had been fired at 12:40 a.m. Aug. 30 in the 1900 block of North 3rd, according to a social media post from the Kansas City, Kansas, Police Department.

Officers discovered several vehicles, an occupied home and an unoccupied church had been struck, according to the report. There were no injuries, the report stated.

A large crowd had gathered that was not cooperative with police, according to the report. Crime scene investigators and detectives responded.

Burglary reported on North 32nd

An auto burglary was reported at 12:45 a.m. Aug. 30 in the 700 block of North 32nd Street, according to a social media post by the Kansas City, Kansas, Police Department.

The victim shared video surveillance footage and stated that a man entered two vehicles in his driveway and removed property, the report stated. Officers located the suspect several blocks away and took him into custody without incident, according to the report.

Shots fired on Ruby Avenue

Shots were fired at 8:55 p.m. Aug. 30 in the 1300 block of Ruby Avenue, according to a social media post by the Kansas City, Kansas, Police Department.

The victim reported that the suspects’ car passed him and then stopped. An unknown suspect then exited the vehicle and fired several shots, striking the vehicle once, but not striking the victim, according to the report.

Crime scene investigators responded.

Armed robbery reported on North 47th

A victim stated that a robbery took place on Aug. 29 in the 4000 block of North 47th Street.

The victim was in the area to sell some speakers when two unknown males, who said they were interested in buying them, pulled up in a vehicle, according to the report. As they were looking at the speakers, one pulled out a black handgun, pointed it at the victim and told him to empty his pockets, according to the report.

The suspects took the victim’s speakers and $200, according to the report. The victim left on foot. Detectives were notified, the report stated.

Burglary reported on North 133rd Terrace

An unknown person opened the garage door and took a vehicle without permission at 2:38 a.m. Aug. 29 in the 1200 block of North 133rd Terrace, according to a social media report from the Kansas City, Kansas, Police Department.

The suspects had entered a vehicle in the driveway first, obtained the garage door opener, pened the door and took the vehicle, according to the report.

While checking for additional burglaries and footage of the incident, officers found additional vehicles burglarized in the immediate area with the same initial suspect vehicle, according to the report. The cases were from before the one on 131st Terrace.

Crime scene investigators processed the non-stolen vehicles that were entered in relation to the entire incident, according to the report. The Bonner Police Department, Basehor Police Department and Leavenworth Police Department were notified.

Vehicle pursuit reported

Officers were in the area of 13th and Central at 3:07 p.m. Aug. 29 when they located a vehicle stolen from Lenexa, Kansas, that was taken in an aggravated burglary, according to a social media post by the Kansas City, Kansas, Police Department.

Officers broadcasted the direction of travel as the vehicle traveled at normal speeds, the report stated. As the vehicle began to increase speed, officers activated their sirens and lights, and the vehicle failed to yield, according to the report.

A pursuit was started, and the vehicle eventually turned south on 7th, then turned east on Southwest Boulevard, leaving Kansas, according to the report. Then officers terminated the pursuit.

4-car chain accident reported in I-70 construction zone

An accident was reported at 10:20 Sunday, Aug. 30, on westbound I-70 near 57th Street, according to a Kansas Highway Patrol trooper’s report.

A Chevrolet Silverado and Mazda-6 were westbound on I-70 and were stopped in traffic in the construction zone, according to the report.

A third vehicle, a Dodge Charger, approached the stopped traffic, tried to stop and was rear-ended by another vehicle, a Toyota Prius, the report stated.

The Toyota pushed the Charger into the Silverado, which then was pushed into the Mazda-6, the trooper’s report stated.

According to the trooper’s report, the driver of the Toyota, a 31-year-old woman from Atchison, Kansas, had a possible minor injury.

The driver of the Dodge, a 26-year-old man from Kansas City, Missouri, had a possible minor injury, the report stated.

The driver of the Chevrolet pickup, a 64-year-old man from Perry, Kansas, had no apparent injury, according to the report.

The driver of the Mazda, a 41-year-old man from Kansas City, Missouri, had no apparent injury, the report stated.

UG committees to meet tonight

Unified Government committees are scheduled to meet at 5 p.m. Monday, Aug. 31, in a remote Zoom meeting.

On the agenda at tonight’s Economic Development and Finance Committee meeting is a proposal to redevelop the Schlitterbahn water park as a multi-sport youth athletic complex. The EDF Committee meeting follows the Neighborhood and Community Development Committee meeting, which starts at 5 p.m.

Also on the agenda for the EDF Committee meeting are a second quarter cash and investmenet report, an ordinance and resolution for the URBN distribution and fulfillment center and office project at the corner of Speedway Boulevard and State Avenue, an agreement between the UG and Bonner Springs for the Bonner Springs Neighborhood Revitalization Plan, a resolution to set a public hearing to discuss the Neighborhood Revitalization Act plan and agreements, and a resolution for the Epic Center Redevelopment district at I-35 and 18th Street.

On the NCD Committee agenda are Land Bank applications and transactions at 1886 S. 6th St., 2726 N. 59th St., 601 S. 26th, 609 S. 26th, 617 S. 26th, 1602 S. 17th, 3201 Kansas Ave. and 3301 Kansas Ave. There also will be an update on the Land Bank option process.
