Candidate forums to be shown on cable TV and online

Virtual candidate forums for the primary election will be shown on cable television and online.

The forums were sponsored by Business West and Kansas City Kansas Community College.

The candidates who participated were those who had primary opposition and were running for Wyandotte County district attorney and state representative.

The primary election will be Aug. 4, and in-person early voting has already started. Mail-in ballots are available through Tuesday at the election office. On Election Day, Aug. 4, the polls will be open from 7 a.m. to 7 p.m.

The forums are on KCEC cable channel on Spectrum Cable (Wyandotte County) on Channel 17, and on Google TV on Channel 146. The forums will be shown now through Aug. 3.

The KCKCC Media Services Department worked on the cable production for the forum, and scheduled the forums on KCEC cable channel.

Police notes

Shots fired at home, family pet injured

Shots were fired at a home at 12:01 a.m. July 25 in the 2100 block of North 79th, according to a social media post by the Kansas City, Kansas, Police Department.

Officers found the home and family pet had been struck by a bullet, according to the report. No persons were injured.

The suspect fled before police arrived, the report stated. A police sergeant responded.

Shooting reported on North 22nd

Officers responded to a dispatched domestic disturbance call about 10:28 a.m. July 25 in the 300 block of North 22nd Street, according to a social media post by the Kansas City, Kansas, Police Department.

Officers found multiple victims were inside the residence when it was struck several times by gunfire between 4 and 5 a.m., the report stated. There were no injuries reported. The domestic case was resolved. Detectives, crime scene investigators and a sergeant responded.

Weapon brandished after argument on Locust

Officers responded about 5:15 p.m. July 25 to the 5100 block of Locust on an armed disturbance call.

The victims said a suspect came outside after a verbal argument and pointed a weapon at them, according to the report. The suspect was arrested and booked into the Wyandotte County Jail, police stated.

Evidence was recovered, and the shift sergeant responded to the scene.

Aggravated assaulted reported on South 8th

Aggravated assault was reported at 8:03 p.m. July 25 in the 2300 block of South 8th Street, according to a social media post by the Kansas City, Kansas, Police Department.

The victim said a suspect drove to his address and brandished a weapon, the report stated. The suspect then fled. The victim refused to cooperate with police, according to the report.

Gun fired at victim on Pacific

A suspect brandished a handgun and discharged the weapon at a victim about 10:40 p.m. July 25 in the 1200 block of Pacific Avenue, according to a social media post by the Kansas City, Kansas, Police Department.

The victim was not struck, according to the report. Evidence was collected and the suspect was booked into the Wyandotte County Jail, the report stated. Detectives responded.

Victim hit by gunfire on Troup

A victim was hit by gunfire at 11:20 p.m. July 25 in the 1100 block of Troup, according to a social media post by the Kansas City, Kansas, Police Department.

The suspect was unknown, according to the victim. The victim was taken to a hospital with non-life-threatening injuries.

Evidence was recovered and crime scene investigators responded, the report stated.

Victim hit by gunfire on Brown Avenue

A victim told police he was hit by gunfire at 1:10 a.m. July 24 in the area of the 3300 block of Brown Avenue, according to a social media post by the Kansas City, Kansas, Police Department.

The victim had non-life-threatening injuries, the report stated. Detectives responded.

Driver brandishes weapon after accident

Officers went to a dispatched aggravated assault call about 1:36 a.m. July 24 in the 1700 block of Ruby Avenue, according to a social media post by the Kansas City, Kansas, Police Department.

The victim said he went to check on the driver of a vehicle involved in a traffic crash, according to the report. The driver of the crashed vehicle brandished a weapon and tried to chamber a round before fleeing in another vehicle, the victim stated. Detectives responded.

Burglary reported on Merriam Lane

Officers responded to a commercial burglary call at 2:30 a.m. July 24 in the 3000 block of Merriam Lane, according to a social media post by the Kansas City, Kansas, Police Department.

Officers were told that a male suspect gained entry into the business, according to the report. The suspect took multiple pieces of property. Evidence was collected, and detectives and crime scene investigators responded, the report stated.

Victims shot during rolling gun battle near Armourdale and Osage

Officers responded to a hospital at 7:50 p.m. July 24 where a victim of a shooting had come in for treatment.

The victim said he was the passenger in a car that was shot at by an unknown suspect in an area near Armourdale and Osage avenues.

Other victims were located and had gone to area hospitals as well, the report stated. The victims stated they were shot during a rolling gun disturbance, the report stated.

All victims had non-life-threatening injuries, according to the report. Detectives and crime scene investigators responded.

Faith news

Wyandotte County is in Phase 3 under Kansas Ad Astra reopening plan. Local health officials said under Phase 3, people should keep a distance of 6 feet between themselves and others. They may sit closer to people who live in their households. Also, people should wear masks and should wash hands or use hand sanitizer. There is now a mask order in effect in Kansas and Wyandotte County, requiring masks to be worn inside any public space.

Some faith groups will continue holding online or video services. In Wyandotte County, those who are older than 60 or who have other medical conditions should continue being very cautious, according to the Wyandotte County health officials Those who are sick should stay home, according to officials.
