UG committee meeting scheduled today

The Unified Government Public Works and Safety Committee is scheduled to meet at 5 p.m. Monday, July 27.

It will be a virtual online meeting, to be carried on Zoom, is available on the internet and telephone, and also is available for viewing on cable television and on YouTube.

On the agenda for the PWS meeting are a grant application for the victim services unit of the Kansas City, Kansas, Police Department; the donation of a 2008 Sheriff’s Office transport vehicle to the Salvation Army; and a lease agreement with Motorola Solutions for in-car and body worn cameras.

The meeting can be seen on UGTV on channel 141, Google Fiber; and channel 2, Spectrum. It also will be available on YouTube.

Injury reported in accident on I-70

An injury accident was reported at 7:04 a.m. Monday, July 27, on westbound I-70 near the I-435 exit in Wyandotte County.

A 1998 Mercury Tracer was westbound on I-70 when it lost control and struck a 2019 International truck, according to a Kansas Highway Patrol trooper’s report.

The Tracer left the roadway and struck the barrier wall. On Monday morning, it was raining.

The driver of the Tracer, a 20-year-old man from Leavenworth, Kansas, had a possible minor injury, the report stated.

The driver of the International truck, a 67-year-old man from Bonner Springs, Kansas, had no apparent injury, the report stated.

Shooting reported at home on North Allis

Victims heard several gunshots outside their residence at 2:12 a.m. July 26 in the 1900 block of North Allis Street, according to a social media post by the Kansas City, Kansas, Police Department.

The residence was struck several times, causing damage, according to the report. There were no injuries.

Shooting reported on North 79th

A victim stated that her residence was struck, with her children inside, at 2:42 a.m. July 26 in the 2100 block of North 79th Street, according to a social media post by the Kansas City, Kansas, Police Department.

The residence was damaged, and there were no injuries, according to the report.

Victim injured by gunfire during argument

A victim was injured by gunfire during a verbal altercation at 11:35 a.m. July 26 in the 300 block of North 70th Terrace, according to a social media post from the Kansas City, Kansas, Police Department.

The male victim stated that during a verbal altercation, suspects fired several shots at him, according to the report. The injuries were non-life-threatening, the report stated.

Victim robbed while trying to purchase firearm

A victim told police that he met suspects to purchase a firearm at 7:20 p.m. July 26 in the 2200 block of Silver Court, according to a social media post by the Kansas City, Kansas, Police Department.

One of the suspects produced a firearm and pointed it at the victim, demanding his money, according to the victim. The suspect fled before officers arrived, the report stated.
