Homicide victim on North 34th identified

The victim of a homicide at 2:34 a.m. Jan. 5 in the 3000 block of North 34th Street has been identified, according to a Kansas City, Kansas, Police Department spokesman.

The victim was Luis Deras-Orellana, 21, a resident of Kansas City, Kansas, according to police.

When officers arrived on Sunday, they found the victim with several gunshot wounds. Police took the victim to a hospital, where he died from his injuries, the spokesman stated.

The Kansas City, Kansas, Police Department’s Criminal Investigations Division is investigating. Anyone with information is asked to call the TIPS hotline at 816-474-TIPS.

Burglary victim hit with golf club
A burglary victim reportedly was hit with a golf club at 7:15 p.m. Jan. 5 in the 1800 block of North 30th Street, according to a social media post by the Kansas City, Kansas, Police Department.

A victim entered the home and found the door unlocked, according to the report. The victim found items out of place.

Then a suspect attacked the victim with a golf club, the report stated. The suspect fled and the victim had major injuries, according to the report.

Illegal drugs found on bicyclist
Kansas City, Kansas, police reported on social media that they stopped a bicyclist for code violations and found illegal drugs.

The incident happened at 8:15 p.m. Jan. 5. When stopped, the suspect refused to give the suspect’s name to the officer, and then tried to flee, according to the report. Officers forced the suspect into custody, and there were no injuries, according to the report. The suspect was in possession of illegal drugs, the report stated.
