Family story time planned
Family story time is planned from 11 a.m. to noon Saturday, Jan. 25, at the youth services craft room, Main Kansas City, Kansas, Public Library, 625 Minnesota Ave., Kansas City, Kansas. There will be reading, dancing and singing. The story time is geared to children ages 2 to 6. For other library activities, visit www.kckpl.org.

KCKCC conference home opener to be Saturday
Kansas City Kansas Community College’s basketball conference home openers will be on Saturday, Jan. 25, at KCKCC fieldhouse, 7250 State Ave. The Blue Devils will play Hesston, with the women’s game scheduled at 2 p.m. and the men’s game at 4 p.m.

In the event of inclement weather, contact the sponsoring organization to see if the event will still be held.

Police investigating homicide

Kansas City, Kansas, police were called to the 8000 block of Greeley Avenue about 7:30 p.m. Jan. 24 on a report of a shooting.

When they arrived, officers found an 18-year-old male on the front porch, deceased, a police spokesman stated.

The identity of the victim will be released when there is positive identification and family notification, the spokesman stated.

The case is being handled by the Criminal Investigations Division. Anyone with information is asked to call the TIPS hotline at 816-474-TIPS.

Renovations planned at animal shelter

Renovations are planned at the Kansas City, Kansas, animal shelter during February.

According to a spokesman for the Kansas City, Kansas, Police Department, the front office and kennel areas will see extensive renovations. The building is scheduled to reopen on March 2.

During renovations, animals may be reclaimed and entry into the building will be through the side entrance, the spokesman said. Signs will direct visitors to the entrance.

Adoptions will be moved to Olathe and KCK PetSmart locations on Saturdays, according to the spokesman. There will not be in-shelter adoptions during the renovations.

The animal shelter will be getting LED lighting, energy-efficient windows, venting and ductwork, new floords and furniture, according to the spokesman.

The renovations will provide a much needed overhaul that will provide a more welcoming environment to visitors as the shelter continues to increase adoptions, the spokesman said.
