The Kansas City, Kansas, Martin Luther King Jr. Holiday Celebration will take place at 11 a.m. Monday, Jan. 20, at the Reardon Civic Center, 5th and Minnesota, Kansas City, Kansas. The theme will be “Injustice Anywhere Is a Threat to Justice Everywhere.” The guest speaker will be Monsignor Stuart Swetland, president of Donnelly College, Kansas City, Kansas. The event is open to the public.

St. Patrick Catholic Church, 1086 N. 94th, Kansas City, Kansas, will hold Masses in English at 6 p.m. Tuesday, Dec. 31, at 8 a.m. and 10 a.m. on Wednesday, Jan. 1, for the Solemnity of Mary holy day. A Mass at noon Jan. 1 will be in Spanish and a Mass at 2:30 p.m. Jan. 1 will be in Burmese.


Members of St. Paul’s Episcopal Church, 1300 N. 18th St., Kansas City, Kansas, will observe Epiphany Sunday at 10 a.m. Jan. 5.


Stony Point Christian Church, 149 S. 78th St., Kansas City, Kansas, is planning a New Year’s Eve event for children, youth and their families from 7 p.m. to midnight Dec. 31 in the Cole Activity Center. Board games, interactive games and other activities are planned.


Wyandotte United Methodist Church, 7901 Oakland Ave., Kansas City, Kansas, will hold services at 8:30 a.m. and 11 a.m. on Sunday, Dec. 29, with Sunday school at 9:45 a.m.

Police notes

Domestic assault and battery reported
An aggravated domestic assault and domestic battery case was reported at 7:30 p.m. Dec. 27, according to a social media post by the Kansas City, Kansas, Police Department.


The victim got into an argument with the suspect, then the suspect bit the victim on the head and put a knife to the victim’s neck, according to the report. The suspect threatened to kill the victim, the report stated.


The suspect was taken into custody and the victim had minor injuries, the report stated.

Vehicle windows smashed
Domestic criminal damage was reported at 2:01 a.m. Dec. 28, according to a social media post by the Kansas City, Kansas, Police Department.


The suspect was intoxicated and smashed the windows of a vehicle, according to the report.


The suspect was taken into custody, and taken to jail, the report stated.

Aggravated sodomy and rape reported
An aggravated sodomy and rape case was reported at 4:03 a.m. Dec. 28, according to a social media post by the Kansas City, Kansas, Police Department.


The victims stated they were with the suspect, when the suspect forced the victim to do sexual acts against the victim’s will, according to the report.

Weather advisory issued for Wyandotte County

Wyandotte County is in the path of a strong thunderstorm, according to the National Weather Service, and is under a weather advisory until 5 p.m.

A line extending from near Tonganoxie to near Eudora to near Wellsville, Kansas, was moving east at 35 mph, according to the weather service.

Winds in excess of 40 mph are possible with these storms.

Isolated wind gusts approaching 50 to 60 mph could do minor damage to loose or light objects, or minor tree damage, the weather service said.
