FIA luncheon to be Jan. 9

The Fairfax Industrial Association will meet for a luncheon on Thursday, Jan. 9, at the Board of Public Utilities offices, 540 Minnesota Ave., Kansas City, Kansas.

The guest speaker will be Michelle Lane, senior director of corporate and community wellness for North Kansas City Hospital. Lane has more than 20 years’ experience in nursing, psychology and wellness.

Her topic will be “The Science of Happiness.” This program is sponsored by the BPU.

Three deaths in North Mill fire being investigated as homicide

Three deaths in a fire at 29 N. Mill St. on Monday morning are being investigated as a homicide, according to a Kansas City, Kansas, Police Department spokesman.

Police officers were sent to the scene at 5:01 a.m. Monday, Dec. 30, to assist the Kansas City, Kansas, Fire Department with a residential fire, the spokesman stated.

A preliminary investigation showed that three individuals, including an adult female and two juveniles, were victims of a homicide, according to a police spokesman.

Their identity will be released pending positive identification and family notification, according to the spokesman.

The spokesman said the circumstances leading up to the incident are under investigation by the Police Department’s Major Case Unit, which is encouraging anyone with information to call the TIPS hotline at 816-474-TIPS.

Victim hit with vacuum

A victim told police a suspect him the victim with a vacuum multiple times around 7:22 p.m. Dec. 29, according to a social media post by the Kansas City, Kansas, Police Department.

The victim had serious injuries and was taken to a hospital, according to police. The suspect was not at the scene.

Rape reported

A rape was reported about 8:44 p.m. Dec. 29, according to a social media post by the Kansas City, Kansas, Police Department. The victim was drinking with the suspect, according to the report.

The victim became intoxicated and blacked out, according to the report. The victim believed the suspect had sex with the victim, according to the report. The victim was treated at a hospital, the report stated.

Burglary reported on Everett

A burglary was reported about 9:09 p.m. Dec. 29 in the 7800 block of Everett Avenue, according to a social media post by the Kansas City, Kansas, Police Department. Officers were sent to a burglary in progress, according to the report.

Officers learned an unknown suspect was able to gain entry into a business and take property, according to the report.

Sex offense against juvenile reported

Aggravated indecent liberties with a minor was reported at 9:36 p.m. Dec. 28, according to a social media post by the Kansas City, Kansas, Police Department. Inappropriate sexual touching over a period of months was reported, according to the report. The suspect was not at the scene.
