Program to be presented on history of the Klan in KCK

A program, “Hidden History: The Ku Klux Klan KCKs,” will be presented from 5 p.m. to 9:30 p.m. Monday, Oct. 28.

The host of the program is CiviX, and it is being presented through a collaboration with “We the People of KCK,” the Kansas City, Kansas, Public Library and the Reola Grant Center for Family Life Development.

It will be presented at the upper Jewell building, Kansas City Kansas Community College, 7250 State Ave.

Author Tim Rives will discuss his book, “The Ku Klux Klan of Kansas City, Kansas,” and will sign books.

Chester Owens will introduce Rives, a historian and deputy director of the Eisenhower Presidential Library and Museum in Abilene, Kansas. Rives’ book focuses on the revival of the Klan in 1921 in Kansas City, Kansas, and details the extent of its influence in the city over the ensuing decades.

This meeting is free and open to the public. Candidates for public office have been invited to meet voters during this event.

Hit-and-run rollover accident reported on I-35

A hit-and-run accident was reported at 9:25 a.m. Monday, Oct. 21, on southbound I-35, a quarter of a mile south of Southwest Boulevard in Kansas City, Kansas, according to a Kansas Highway Patrol trooper’s report.

A Jeep Grand Cherokee was southbound on I-35 when it was struck by an unknown vehicle, according to the trooper’s report.

The Grand Cherokee went off the roadway to the right, over a guardrail, and it rolled down an embankment and flipped, the trooper’s report stated. The vehicle came to rest on the driver’s side.

The driver of the Grand Cherokee, a 39-year-old Kansas City, Missouri, man, had a possible minor injury and was taken to a hospital in Kansas City, Kansas, according to the trooper’s report.

KCKCC to hold kids Halloween party

Kansas City Kansas Community College is inviting the families of all staff, faculty and students as well as community members to the annual KCKCC Kids Halloween Party.

The event is from 5:30 to 7:30 p.m. Friday, Oct. 25, in Lower Jewell on the KCKCC Main Campus, 7250 State Ave. The host of the event is the KCKCC Student Senate and many of the KCKCC clubs, organizations and other groups.

The night will be filled with fun and engaging activities for children up to 12 years old. Some of the activities include carnival games, candy, food, crafts, animal balloons, magic show, Kids Haunted House, trunk or treat, funnel cakes and more. This is a free event for the entire family.
