Blessed Sacrament Catholic Church, 2203 Parallel Ave., Kansas City, Kansas, is planning a parish fiesta from noon to 10 p.m. Saturday, Sept. 21. The fiesta features Mexican food, music, entertainment and games.


Christ the King Catholic Church, 3024 N. 53rd St., Kansas City, Kansas, will hold a Community Blood Center blood drive from 2 p.m. to 6 p.m. Tuesday, Sept. 17, at Davern Hall in the church basement. Volunteers from Holy Family Catholic Church, Kansas City, Kansas, are preparing for the annual Slovenefest, which will be held Saturday, Sept. 28, at the Monsignor Mejak Hall and Holy Family School grounds, 513 Ohio. The event will include a traditional Slovenian dinner, music and family entertainment. The funds raised will support Holy Family Church. The festival begins after the 4 p.m. Mass on Sept. 28 at Holy Family Church, 274 Orchard St., Kansas City, Kansas. The festival from 5 to 10 p.m. Sept. 28 includes children’s and adult games, cultural booth, souvenirs, a silent auction, authentic Slovenian food including sarma (stuffed cabbage rolls), poljene paprika (stuffed peppers), krvavica (a specialty sausage), Slovenian potato salad and green beans. Tamburitza music from Hravatski Obicaj is featured from 5 to 6 p.m., and Slovenian polkas by the Brian McCarty Band are planned from 6 to 9 p.m.

St. Mary-St. Anthony Catholic Church, 615 N 7th St., downtown Kansas City, Kansas, will celebrate Fiesta Latina on the church grounds from 1 p.m. to 6 p.m. on Sunday, Sept. 29, and will begin with a special Spanish Mass at 11:30 a.m. Fiesta Latina is about preserving the Latino culture and living out faith. Festivities include home made traditional Mexican food: tacos, tamales, menudo and pastries. Enjoy Folkloric dancers, traditional Mariachi Mexican music, children and adult games. All money raised supports Catholic education for children at St. Mary-St. Anthony Catholic Church.

St. Patrick Catholic Church, 1086 N. 94th St., Kansas City, Kansas, plans an ice cream social from 5 to 9 p.m. Saturday, Sept. 21, on the church grounds. Mass will be at 4 p.m. The social will include food, hamburgers, hot dogs, a Mexican dinner, a Burmese Chin dinner, music, dancing, bingo and games for children.

Members of St. Paul’s Episcopal Church, 1300 N.18th St., Kansas City, Kansas, will observe the fifteenth Sunday after Pentecost at 10 a.m. Sept. 22.


St. Peter’s Fall Festival is planned from 5 p.m. to 9 p.m. Saturday, Sept. 21, at the Cathedral of St. Peter, 422 N. 14th St., Kansas City, Kansas.

Stony Point Christian Church, 149 S. 78th St., Kansas City, Kansas, will participate in Operation Christmas Child, in which individuals may fill up shoe boxes with Christmas gifts for children.


Wyandotte United Methodist Church, 7901 Oakland Ave., Kansas City, Kansas, will have have an all-church breakfast from 8 to 10 a.m. Saturday, Sept. 28. A freewill donation will be accepted. The church will meet for worship services on Sept. 15 at 8:30 a.m. and 11 a.m., with Sunday school at 9:45 a.m. and the youth group at 1:30 p.m. A Community Blood Center blood drive will be held from 2:30 p.m. to 6:30 p.m. Tuesday, Oct. 15, at the Fellowship Hall, Wyandotte United Methodist Church.

‘Steel Magnolias’ to present gospel music program

“The Steel Magnolias” from San Marcos, Texas, will present an inspirational gospel music program at 6 p.m. Saturday, Sept. 14, at the Bent Knee Cowboy Church, 13415 S. 142nd St., Bonner Springs.

“The Steel Magnolias” from San Marcos, Texas, will present a choreographed program of inspirational gospel music at 6 p.m. Saturday, Sept. 14, at the Bent Knee Cowboy Church, 13415 S. 142nd St., Bonner Springs, Kansas.

The group has sung throughout America and Canada for the past 13 years , and gave as many as 150 concerts.

The theme of this year’s concert is “Joy in the Journey,” from John 15:11. The group is on a 12-day concert tour to the Heartland of America, from Sept. 13 to 24, traveling through 13 states.

There is no charge for the concert, which is open to the public.
