Homicide victim identified

The victim of a homicide at 9:22 p.m. Monday, April 1, in the 2100 block of Silver Court has been identified, according to a Kansas City, Kansas, police spokesman.

The victim was Todd Walker, 21, a resident of Kansas City, Missouri, the police spokesman stated.

Police and fire personnel responded to the shooting, and Fire Department personnel confirmed the victim was dead, according to police.

The shooting is under investigation by the Police Department’s Criminal Investigations Division. Anyone with information is asked to call the TIPS hotline at 816-474-TIPS.

Weather: High near 59, Missouri River declines into minor flood stage

Today’s weather is a high near 59, with rain in the forecast for tonight and Wednesday, according to the National Weather Service.

The Missouri River at Parkville, which includes Wyandotte County, on Monday declined from moderate into minor flood stage, according to weather service gauges.

Although there is rain in the forecast this week, it is not expected to affect Missouri River flooding here, the weather service stated. The water releases are being increased this week from the Gavins Point reservoir in South Dakota, scheduled to go from 39,000 cubic feet per second April 2 to 42,000 cfs April 3, and gradually increasing to 55,000 cfs by April 7. River levels in the Kansas City area are expected to continue a gradual decline.

Today, it will be mostly sunny with a high near 59 and a west southwest wind of 5 to 8 mph becoming north northwest in the afternoon, the weather service said.

Tonight, there is a 20 percent chance of showers after 1 a.m., according to the weather service. The low will be around 46, with a calm wind becoming southeast around 6 mph after midnight.

Wednesday, there will be a 30 percent chance of showers, with a high near 64, the weather service said. A south southeast wind of 7 to 15 mph will gust as high as 26 mph. Less than a tenth of an inch of rain is expected.

Wednesday night, there is a 50 percent chance of showers, with thunderstorms also possible after 4 a.m., according to the weather service. The low will be around 49, with a south southeast wind of 6 to 9 mph. Less than a tenth of an inch of rain is expected.

Thursday, there is a 40 percent chance of showers and thunderstorms before 7 a.m., then a chance of showers between 7 a.m. and 1 p.m., the weather service said. The high will be near 60 with an east wind of 7 mph becoming north northeast in the afternoon. Less than a tenth of an inch of rain is possible.

Thursday night, it will be mostly cloudy with a low of 44, according to the weather service.

Friday, it will be partly sunny with a high near 67, the weather service said.

Saturday, there is a 30 percent chance of showers after 1 p.m., with a high near 73, the weather service said.

One person reported dead in shooting at 21st and Silver Court

One person was reported dead at a shooting Monday night at the 2100 block of Silver Court, according to a spokesman for the Kansas City, Kansas, Police Department.

Kansas City, Kansas, police responded to the scene about 9:22 p.m., and found a man in his early 20s who had been shot, according to the spokesman.

The address is at apartments in Argentine.

According to police, the name of the victim is being withheld until there is positive identification and family notification.
