Suspect shot by officer near 38th and State

A suspect was shot by an officer around 7 p.m. Thursday near a store at 38th and State Avenue, according to a social media post by the police chief.

Officers had responded to a robbery call, and the suspect came out of the store and is believed to have shot at officers, the chief stated in a post.

The officers returned fire, hitting the suspect, according to the chief’s post.

Officers and bystanders were not injured, according to the chief’s post.

The suspect was taken to a hospital, where he was in stable condition, according to the police chief.

NAACP to meet May 7

The Kansas City Kansas Branch of NAACP will meet May 7 at the Bethany Medical Building, second floor meeting room, 21 N. 12th St., Kansas City, Kansas.

The regular executive committee meeting will start at 6 p.m. and the regular membership meeting at 7 p.m.

Rollover accident reported

A rollover accident was reported at 12:05 p.m. Wednesday, April 24, on a ramp to westbound I-70 in Wyandotte County.

According to the Kansas Highway Patrol trooper’s report, a 2017 Dodge Ram was traveling on the ramp from K-32 to westbound I-70. The tie rod on the vehicle broke, causing it to swerve off the road to the left and roll over, the trooper’s report stated. The truck was pulling a trailer.

The driver of the Ram, a 66-year-old man from Ankeny, Iowa, had a suspected minor injury and was taken to a hospital, the trooper’s report stated.
