Cold front moves through this morning, freezing drizzle possible
A cold front moved through Wyandotte County this morning, dropping temperatures from 60 degrees at 3 a.m. to 46 degrees at 6 a.m., then 34 degrees at 8 a.m.
According to the National Weather Service, temperatures could stop their fall today at 32 degrees.
There is a slight chance of freezing drizzle from now until 11 a.m., the weather service said. Roads and sidewalks could become slick today. It also will be windy today.
More wintry weather is in the forecast through Thursday, according to the weather service.
More freezing rain is possible tonight into early Tuesday morning, the weather service said.
Today, there is a slight chance of drizzle before 10 a.m., then a slight chance of freezing drizzle between 10 a.m. and 11 a.m., then gradually becoming sunny, with a steady temperature of 32, the weather service said. It will be breezy, with a west wind of 10 to 20 mph and gusting as high as 32 mph. The winds may become north in the afternoon.
Tonight, it will be mostly clear, with a low of 24, according to the weather service. A north wind of 6 to 10 mph will become east northeast after midnight, and winds could gust as high as 18 mph.
Tuesday, there is a 30 percent chance of freezing rain after 7 a.m., the weather service said. The high will be near 33 with an east northeast wind of 7 to 9 mph.
Tuesday night, there is a 30 percent chance of rain before 9 p.m., then a chance of freezing rain, according to the weather service. The low will be around 29, with a north wind of 7 mph.
Wednesday, there is a 50 percent chance of freezing rain before 11 a.m., then a chance of rain, the weather service said. The high will be near 44 with a northeast wind of 7 mph. Less than a tenth of an inch of rain is possible.
Wednesday night, there is a 60 percent chance of rain, possibly mixed with freezing rain before 4 a.m., then freezing rain likely between 4 a.m. and 5 a.m., followed by freezing rain mixed with sleet after 5 a.m., according to the weather service. The low will be around 22. Less than a tenth of an inch of new precipitation is likely.
Thursday, there is a 60 percent chance of freezing rain before 9 a.m., then a chance of snow between 9 a.m. and 1 p.m., the weather service said. The high will be near 24.
Thursday night, it will be partly cloudy with a low of 6, according to the weather service.
Friday, it will be sunny with a high near 24, the weather service said.
Friday night, it will be mostly clear, with a low of 14, according to the weather service.
Saturday, it will be sunny with a high near 38, the weather service said.
Saturday night, there is a 30 percent chance of rain and snow, with a low of 27, according to the weather service.

Program planned on Emmett Till case
A program is planned from 6:30 p.m. to 7:30 p.m. Monday, Feb. 4, at the West Wyandotte Library, 1737 N. 82nd St., Kansas City, Kansas, on the 1955 Emmett Till murder case. Dave Tell, an associate professor of communications studies at the University of Kansas, will describe various memorials and how they show different narratives of what happened. Tell co-created the Emmett Till Memory Project.
Free tax preparation offered
Beginning in February, AARP will provide free tax preparation services from 9 a.m. to 2 p.m. Tuesdays at the Bonner Springs City Library, 201 N. Nettleton Ave., Bonner Springs, Kansas. From Tuesday, Feb. 5, through Tuesday, April 9, the volunteer tax preparers will be at the Bonner Springs Library from 9 a.m. to 2 p.m. This location will be a walk-in site and people do not have to sign up in advance. Storm spotter training canceled, to be rescheduled
A severe weather seminar scheduled for Feb. 5 was canceled because of a forecast of freezing rain and potentially hazardous road conditions. This seminar will be rescheduled later. For those who are interested in the weather, a storm spotter training seminar will be held from 7 p.m. to 9 p.m. Tuesday, Feb. 5, at Kansas City Kansas Community College, Dr. Burke Technical Education Center, 6565 State Ave., Kansas City, Kansas. The Wyandotte County Emergency Management Department is the host of the seminar, which will help residents be prepared to deal with severe weather. The seminar is free and open to the public. Staff from the National Weather Service office in Pleasant Hill, Missouri, will lead the seminar. Those attending will learn to recognize, identify and relay information about severe weather. They also will learn the difference between severe and non-severe weather. They will learn how to and what to report to the National Weather Service.

Black History Banquet scheduled Feb. 16
The 27th annual Black History and Scholarship Banquet will be Saturday, Feb. 16, at the Jack Reardon Convention Center, 500 Minnesota Ave., Kansas City, Kansas. The host of the event is the Unified Government Black History Committee. The social hour will begin at 5 p.m., followed by the banquet at 6 p.m. The keynote speaker this year is Tyrone Flowers, a native of Kansas City, Missouri, who is the founder of Higher M-Pact, a community-based organization dedicating to transforming youth into leaders. Flowers faced many challenges growing up during his childhood, but his determination and faith brought him through the adversities in life to fulfilling his God given-purpose. He will address this year’s theme, “21st Century Expressions: Dreams, Struggles and Wisdom.” In addition to the keynote speaker, this year the achievements of two successful business owners and a professional who is making a difference in the community will be highlighted. Despite the challenges of access to capital, business resources and discriminatory practices, minority entrepreneurs have overcome challenges to pursue their entrepreneurial dreams.
