Winter storm expected today and Saturday

Light rain is expected to transition to snow late Friday afternoon into the evening, according to the National Weather Service.

A winter weather advisory is in effect from 6 p.m. tonight through 6 p.m. Saturday. Difficult travel conditions are possible, according to the weather service.

The greatest potential for accumulating snow will be tonight through Saturday morning, the weather service said.

On Saturday, snow is expected to continue through midday, tapering off during the afternoon the evening, according to the weather service.

Accumulations between 3 and 5 inches are expected over the region.

Today, there will be rain, mainly after 11 a.m., with a high near 40, and a southeast wind of 5 to 7 mph, the weather service said. Between a quarter and half-inch of precipitation is possible.

Tonight, there will be rain before 7 p.m., then rain and snow between 7 p.m. and 10 p.m., then snow after 10 p.m., according to the weather service. The low will be around 32 with an east wind of 6 mph. From 2 to 4 inches of snow are possible.

Saturday, snow is likely, mainly before 3 pm., with a high of 33 and a north wind of 7 to 9 mph. The chance of snow is 80 percent, with 1 to 2 inches of snow possible, the weather service said.

Saturday night, there is a 30 percent chance of snow and freezing drizzle before 9 p.m., then a chance of freezing drizzle between 9 p.m. and midnight, according to the weather service. The low will be 27 with a north wind of 7 to 9 mph.

Sunday, it will be mostly cloudy with a high near 33 and a north wind of 5 to 7 mph, the weather service said.

Sunday night, it will be mostly cloudy with a low of 24, according to the weather service.

Monday, it will be mostly sunny, with a high near 39, the weather service said.

Monday night, it will be mostly clear, with a low of 30, according to the weather service.

Tuesday, it will be sunny with a high near 47, the weather service said.

Tuesday night, it will be partly cloudy, with a low of 29, according to the weather service.

Wednesday, it will be partly sunny, with a high near 38, the weather service said.

Wednesday night, it will be mostly cloudy with a low of 24, according to the weather service.

Thursday, it will be mostly sunny, with a high near 40, the weather service said.

Suspects arrested after attempted robbery

Two suspects, a male and female, were arrested after an attempted robbery near 75th and State at 10:39 p.m. on Wednesday, according to police.

A suspect threatened to start shooting if they were not given money quickly, according to a social media post by police, but fled without getting the money.

Officers pursued the suspects to 69th and State, where they were in a crash.

A police canine located the male suspect, according to police, and both suspects were arrested.

Single-game tickets on sale for Sporting KC

Single-game tickets to Sporting Kansas City’s first eight MLS home matches of 2019 are now on sale via SeatGeek.com.

The season begins with Fan Appreciation Day against the Philadelphia Union on March 10 and ends with a marquee matchup versus Zlatan Ibrahimovic and the LA Galaxy on May 29.

Limited quantities of full-season ticket packages remain available.

Four home dates will also feature Family Four Packs consisting of four match tickets, four hot dogs, four soft drink products and four bags of chips – including a game against the Montreal Impact on March 30.

Sporting KC unveiled the club’s promotional schedule for the 2019 MLS regular season on Thursday, offering up a variety of exciting theme nights at Children’s Mercy Park. The 2019 calendar is headlined by the return of several popular promotions as Sporting continues its quest for championships on the field.

Fan Appreciation Day will offer a welcome to supporters for the team’s home opener on March 10, while Kansas City Night (April 27) and Retro Night (May 5) will celebrate local pride and pay homage to the club’s rich and vibrant history.

Soccer for All (May 29) will highlight Sporting’s commitment to inclusivity, the third annual Sporting Salutes (Aug. 10) will honor the service and sacrifice of military members and their families, and Kick Childhood Cancer Night (Sept. 21) will see players and fans alike take a unified stand against cancer.

In addition, Sporting will support the MLS WORKS Greener Goals initiative during Sporting Sustainability (April 14) and host a Fourth of July celebration on July 3 in a match against LAFC with a post-match fireworks show.
