Fatal accident reported at South 10th and Kansas

A fatal traffic accident has been reported on Saturday night, Dec. 29, near South 10th and Kansas Avenue.

According to a Kansas City, Kansas, police spokesman, officers pursued a stolen vehicle, then ended that pursuit in the area of 8th and Central.

The stolen vehicle then continued toward 10th and Kansas Avenue, where it collided with two other vehicles, the spokesman stated.

Several individuals from those vehicles sustained injuries and were taken to a hospital, the spokesman said.

One person had life-threatening injuries and later died at the hospital, the spokesman stated.

The occupants of the stolen vehicle fled the scene before police arrived, the spokesman stated.

The Kansas Highway Patrol is investigating the accident. Anyone with information is asked to call the TIPS hotline at 816-474-TIPS.

The Kansas City, Kansas, Fire Department responded to the accident with heavy rescue equipment.

According to the Kansas Highway Patrol trooper’s crash report, the accident happened about 9:27 p.m. Dec. 29.

An Audi A4 that had been reported stolen earlier in the evening was the vehicle that ran a red light while going a high rate of speed at Kansas Avenue and 10th Street, according to information from the trooper’s report.

The Audi hit a Chevy Spark in the driver’s side door, the trooper’s report stated. The Spark then struck a Chevy Aveo in the front and left rear. The Aveo was stopped at the red light, while the Spark was southbound on 10th Street at Kansas Avenue, the trooper’s report stated.

The driver of the Spark, a 47-year-old woman from Kansas City, Kansas, died at the hospital about 1 a.m., according to the trooper’s report.

A 54-year-old Kansas City, Kansas, woman passenger in the Spark had serious injuries and was taken to the hospital, the trooper’s report stated.

A 12-year-old Kansas City, Kansas, girl passenger in the Spark also had a serious injury and was taken to the hospital, according to the report.

The driver of the Aveo, a 28-year-old Kansas City, Kansas, man, had serious injuries and was taken to a hospital, the report stated.

A passenger in the Aveo, a 23-year-old Kansas City, Kansas, woman, also had serious injuries and was taken to the hospital, according to the report.
